Sheesh, I got out of the Army in '82 and never had BDU's, just the good old Army OD fatigues, starched and permanent press!

Why the Army would want it’s soldiers to be confused with Marines is a mystery. Don’t institutions like to be a little bit unique?

The Army may use the Marines’ camo, but they can’t fill their shoes.

I must be too old time...when I was in the Corps I thought we had everything the Army didn’t want...”Do more with less” was a motto I have lived with because of my stint in the fleet.

Hey why not Marines? We let you use our old worn out equipment, let us wear your worn out uniforms.

The Army just needs to go with MultiCam and be done with it.

I want ALL of them, regardless of branch, to have the most effective camo pattern available.

This is just silly.

The “ACU” or as I called it the “Army’s Crappiest Uniform”, was a total bust. I got issued 3 sets about a year before I retired and I hated them. They were definitely no good in the woods, not good in the desert and really no good ANYWHERE. It was supposed to be the “Jack of all Trades” uniform and it sucked at everything.

And the about the stupidest part of them was that all the pockets are secured with VELCRO!!! Not only does Velcro wear out or not stick well if you get a bunch of dirt in the pile, which always happens in the woods, or after a ton of washings, it MAKES A HELL OF A LOT OF NOISE when you open it!!!

That might not be any big deal to a REMF, but for those of us in the Infantry where you have to practice Noise Discipline all the time, it IS a big deal. It was a stupid idea from the word go. Buttons are the only way to go. If you tear one off, no biggie, sew anyother one right back on.

I wonder how much money the federal government would save if the Army, Marines, and Air Force (Navy/Coast Guard do have a legit reason for a different pattern) all used the exact same duty uniform. I’m guessing a large number of zeros would be involved.

I really don’t see what the issue would be; each could keep its different service and dress uniforms, which is where the real history and tradition of the service is from a uniform point of view. Hell, let them keep their own head gear too; you can easily tell them all apart from that.

My brother in law (or now ex brother in law) was a marine. Now he use to say that once you were a marine you were always a marine. As a kid this confused me, that is the logic of it.

This guy use to say that ARMY stood for Ain't Ready for Marines Yet. But other times he would confess that the Army had elite groups like the 82, 101, and Rangers who were first rate. He just thought the average Leatherneck was a bit more elite than the average GI. I wasn't in either so I'm no authority but I enjoy listening to the back and forth.

Didn’t the army decide a few years ago to give every soldier a beret to make them feel better and improve their self-esteem? Maybe by letting them wear Marine camo they figure they can try it again.

The Corps owns the rights to MARPAT and wants to retain it for its own use, Kent said late last year. Marine officials said they have no beef with anyone researching and testing MARPAT, but they want Marines distinguished from other service members on the battlefield

What a pantload. *If* MARPAT provides the best camouflage, then it should be used by an service that wants to use it.

Meanwhile, back in the early days of camo:

A long time ago, the British and French were at War. During one battle, the French captured an English major. They took the major to their headquarters and a French general began to question him.

The French general asked ‘why do you English officers all wear red coats? Don’t you know the red material makes you easy targets for us to shoot?’.

In his bland English way, the major informed the general that the reason English officers wear red coats is so that if they are shot, the blood won’t show and the men they are leading won’t panic.

And that is why from that day to now, all French army officers wear brown pants.
