Only if they become Marines!!!
LOL, I knew this thread might get interesting; I'm with you Army Bro!
Agreed.
RLTW
Army has been using Crye Multicam in Afghanistan for over a year.
Yeah, I know. Why not just adopt it as the standard duty uniform?
One of my soldiers took an Iraqi .380 to the left side of his K-pot. It knocked him down and he wound up with a hell of a headache and sore neck but he was otherwise fine. The round did compromise the K-pot and he had to turn it in and get another one, but no big deal. I don’t know if he would been as lucky had be been wearing the old steel pot.
I really did not much care for the new PASGT. The Army cut them down to save on weight, but they were higher on the sides and in the back. Fine I guess if you do crazy stuff like jump out of perfectly good airplanes. And since we no longer used MILES gear, opting for VERY COOL paintball guns (which looked and felt exactly like an M4, ans which stung like crap when they hit you) less helmet in the back was no big deal. And the weight savings was less than a pound. Even wearing the new ones for 16 hours at a pop I never felt any appreciable difference.
Their covers are different and they roll their sleeves differently so it would not be hard to tell the two services apart if they wore the same cammies.
I would bet it would come down to cost. How much is a set of Multicams compared to a set of those cheaply made ACU’s?
The Army does not roll up their sleeves any more. That was done away with around 2006 or so. We were the only branch of the services which did not.
I wonder how much money the federal government would save if the Army, Marines, and Air Force (Navy/Coast Guard do have a legit reason for a different pattern) all used the exact same duty uniform. I’m guessing a large number of zeros would be involved.
I really don’t see what the issue would be; each could keep its different service and dress uniforms, which is where the real history and tradition of the service is from a uniform point of view. Hell, let them keep their own head gear too; you can easily tell them all apart from that.
Certainly the Crye uniforms are going to run a lot more with their features. Why not simply use the ACU design with MultiCam pattern fabric...or even go back to the BDU design with the MultiCam pattern?
They need to get past the pissin’ contest and do what’s best for the war fighters.
The reason ACUs are poorly made isn’t because of the low price. It’s because the government gives favoritism in purchasing to companies that employ people with disabilities. The tag that says ‘Proudly made by the Vision Impaired’ explains, imho, why every single set I ever buy is stitched together wrong in at least one place. Usually at the wrists.
Maybe I’m just a dick.
Good camouflage is good camouflage...UCP is just plain useless.
oh please
LOL! I stand corrected, my FRiend.
Even in the hot months in the middle east?
Sheesh, in Vietnam, we usually went around in t-shirts, or often shirtless; of course we didn't carry around all the gear you grunts did..:=)
Just a bit of good natured kidding.
I would agree if you could convince me that camoflage (tricking human visual perception) is more science than art -- which it isn't. Plus camoflage uniforms are necessarily a compromise based on the surroundings that are anticipated in combat theaters which the forces are oriented on. This would mean that there is plenty of room for variation while still having effective camoflage for the 2 major land combat forces.
My heart says they will, despite 0bozo's interference.
