Fort Worth police issued a warrant for the arrest of a former Lake Travis High School teacher. She is accused of having an improper relationship with a student.

The teacher at the center of this investigation is 39-year-old Cristina McCann. McCann began working at Lake Travis High School in 2007.

In addition to teaching marketing and finance, she served as the DECA club sponsor. DECA is an international organization for business and marketing.

According to a Lake Travis ISD spokesperson, McCann accompanied the DECA students to the state competition in Fort Worth Feb. 24 through Feb. 27.

It was during that trip that an 18-year-old student said he and McCann had a sexual encounter in a hotel room.

Once school staff learned about the allegations on May 5, McCann was placed on paid leave and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office was alerted.

McCann resigned on May 12.

Fort Worth police took over the investigation due to the location of the incident. On Friday, officers issued a warrant for McCann’s arrest. She is charged with improper relationship between an educator and student. It is a second degree felony which carries a punishment of two to 20 years in jail.

McCann told police she will surrender on Monday. Her bond is set at $10,000.

Once she is booked in to jail, Fort Worth police will release more details about the case.

The DemocRATS’ “sex ed” thing has definitely gotten out of hand. I guess now we know why the ‘RATS pushed so had to have “sex” taught in school instead of “reading, writing and arithmetic”.

Making up for what they consider to be a failed career at high-school, or, publicity whores trying to get their 15 minutes of fame.

“Once school staff learned about the allegations on May 5, McCann was placed on paid leave “

The more cases like this that occur I begin to wonder why the
teachers union isn’t targeted by a class action type of lawsuit.

You hit it on the head. Moral values and ethics. The twin bug-bear of liberals. These two pillars of decency standing in the way.

This one appears to have a rather wide wheelbase.

So, the kid was eighteen. I don’t think that should be a felony. A firing offense, sure, but not a crime. Sheesh!

From the article: "She is charged with improper relationship between an educator and student. It is a second degree felony which carries a punishment of two to 20 years in jail."

If she picked him up while out of town on vacation, and the young man was NOT a student, I see your point. She was in a position of power, on a sanctioned field trip, and the the kid WAS a student. I applaud the state for having such a felony on the books. These situations can't be dismissed as "cute" or even a "great learning experience for the student". It is a disgusting epidemic.

Yep, I caught that too.

The sad part is that had she stayed in the work environment instead of teaching she would have never been in this mess.

She is probably technically smart, not ugly, but very dumb.

There is no mention of having been married. If not, at 39 there is an issue.

What a shame.
