The fact of the matter is, there is no way computers would have advanced this quickly if we hadn't been able to backwards-engineer the crashed alien spacecraft. I disagree ... Invention of the transistor (both bipolar and FET) was a reasonable outcome of solid-state physics research in the mid XX Century, and development of integrated circuits from discrete transistors is an engineering problem, not a matter of scientific discovery.
