On the 6th of this month I sent my 7 or 8 year old GPS72 to the Garmin service center in Kansas. It had been a reliable tool but was showing signs of failure and died on a recent trip to Fort Benning, Georgia.
I got it back today, looks and works like new again and it only cost me about 70 bucks including UPS to Garmin.
I know I could have bought a new one but I like the old beast just fine.
The only time I had an issue with Garmin hardware, they took good care of me too... my issue was warranty covered, and didn’t cost me a penny :)
So count me in the 'Yeah for Garmin!' column.
I use to say the same thing about my husband....GG

I'd rather have another camera!!
I bought my Garmin in 2008. Last year, I decided to take advantage of the free upload of the latest maps.
Hoo Boy! I thought I’d never finish. It took 2 and a half hours! And I have a high speed digital Road Runner network! I had to watch it too, as periodically I had to hit “Yes” or “Save” and junk like that.
Anyway... I love the Garmin. I gave it to my son. And before I drive to Colorado this summer - I plan on getting another Garmin. One of those 5” screen jobbies.
Love My Garmin Too. No Issues to date,we have three.
I did notice that it gave you a problem at Fort Benning, Ga

I am also a fan of Olathe based Garmin. I have an etrex Vista handheld for hiking that is about ten years old and used extensively. I had to purchase the Mapsource data disks separately. The computer interface connected to a serial port, and I had to find a guy who made an adapter for serial/USB cable. When traveling I had it on the dash so I could grab it when needed, although the B&W 2” x 1.25” screen was hard to see. Never had a problem with it.
Got the wife a vehicle unit about five years ago, and it too has been perfect in operation. Recently got one for son-in-law and he loves it. Time to get an upgrade for the wife now. They keep getting better.
Garmin in the only brand I’ll consider.

Look at what you are getting before you buy. Years ago I bought a Garmin QUEST. It was a bit complicated to operate for a codger like me but the Missus and I soon learned to make it work for us. It is still great.
Son-in-law got me a NUVI for my birthday last year. It has the large screen but is much more inaccurate than the old QUEST with the tiny screen.
Example, the Nuvi is looking for Pizza Hut. I can see the joint straight ahead past the red-light. The Nuvi say go left, then left then right, leaving you in the back lot of a large log yard.
One good thing the NUVI costs about $400 less than the Quest.

I use USAPHOTOMAPS a lot to plan trips, I can spot likely photo sites on it and dump them in to the Garmin.
The GPS72 also computes tides, really important for sea and shore bird photography.
Google Earth is great but for what I do USAPHOTOMAPS is perfect.
We also had some RINO 530HCx's that we used for training. Good quality FRS/GPRS radio, and you can see yourself and your buddies plotted on the on-screen map. Not cheap, but super convenient and reliable.
If you can get a decent signal it will put you right on a small target.
I got the pn40. Now I think they have a newer one (groan). So what was the occasion? Grandson graduate a school?
My Garmin Street Pilot 2730 WORKS alright, but the woman’s “whiskey and cigarette” voice is very irritating to me. Plus.....whatever accent she has indicates to me that English is NOT her native tongue.
So I wonder; how did she get the gig of being the voice of Garmin? The only thing I can think of is that she must be SOMEBODY’s mistress! I would change to anothe voice if it were possible, but I have not been able to find any way of doing it. I previously owned a Magellen, and the female voice on it was so sweet I “had a crush” on the GPS lady.
But the gal on Garmin is anything but pleasant.
We have an older Garmin. Hubby updated the maps. They, well, they suck. It keeps trying to send us through a secured military arsenal (for a u-turn) because it claims we missed our turn. And that’s just ONE of the idiot things it does. He bought a second Garmin and is NOT updating the maps.
My grand father fought the damn Garmins in WW2. Why are you doing business with the Krauts!!!
belly laugh. My daughter says the same thing about her 2 daughters....high maintainence.......one son.....low maintainence. Been single for 20 years, wouldn’t have it any other way....Hubby passed at age 51....hope he rests in peace...married 33 years...
