Yes, they are going to blow the level to save Cairo IL and will put something like 130,000 acres of farmland awash. Terrible for those farmers, losing crops, topsoil....their ground may never be what it was.

I just read about the dike being blown to save Cicero and flood the farms. I cannot imagine the helplessness these farmers must feel. Will the water flood their homes too? There should be another avenue.

I haven't had time to follow this story, so have no idea what the 'official' reasoning is.. Somehow I seriously doubt they are concerned about Cairo. I'd sooner guess they need to get the water spread out before it makes a straight shot for NO. I think the CoE is hiding behind Cairo's skirts.
