TRUMP BOMBSHELL: The REAL Reason He Avoided Vietnam
Business Insider ^ | 04/29/2011 | Joe Weisenthal

And this might be why he never runs... not the F-bombs... it sounds like Trump has the quintessential rich politician problem: Vietnam.

According to a new document unearthed by The Smoking Gun: Donald Trump received 4 student deferments, and one medical deferment, which is in contradiction to a previous quote explaining his draft status: “I actually got lucky because I had a very high draft number. I’ll never forget, that was an amazing period of time in my life.”

Technically, that doesn't have to be a lie. Eventually Trump got a high draft number, but it appears that it's definitely not the only way he avoided the war.

Again, that Vietnam service has been an issue for many candidates is known to everyone, and for someone who was born wealthy -- and going to Wharton at the time -- the deferrals look worse.

“The Progressives must really be afraid of this man!”

Some of us conservatives are too. Trump is a mixed box of chocolates, you might pull out one with a caramel filling, but the next might have a rock inside.

I really don’t think the followers of the obama-Christ want to get into questioning service to country and or LOVE of one’s country.
In obama’s biography (ghost-written by a terrorist), obama claims to have been “drawn to the radicals”....
Now, who pray-tell, do you think these “radicals” were...?

Trump and Romney aren’t the candidates that I’ll vote for in the primary, but you people will vote for either of them against Obama. Don’t think we’ll definitely get a good candidate.

So what? I had a 2-s college student deferment until my 19th birthday in 1971. My lottery number came in at 330 and they were drafting up to 129. I went to the Selective Service board and dropped my 2-s deferment. Within 3 weeks I was reclassified 1-h and safe from being drafted. Am I proud of this? No, but it was the culture of the time where I was (University campus). I will always honor and respect those who served, however, you don’t have to go out and trash those who decided not to go and fight.

Do people here fundamentally believe that the government has the right to all males of fighting age? I sure as hell don’t.

In a situation like WWII, absolutely. And if a war of that scale happened again we'd end the all volunteer military and draft every male and female needed for the war effort.

I remember the draft situation. Nixon got rid of the student deferrments. There was a lottery system. If you got a low number you went into the army. If you were lucky and got a high number you did not get drafted. Trump deferred his exposure through the 2S deferrments. When he was about 23 years old he got a lucky number. I wonder how he got the 1Y status.

RE: Shouldn’t be any problem to get Obama/Soetero’s should it?

Obama was too young to be drafted to Vietnam.

LOL - I haven’t heard that song since I was in college (and not on a student deferment). It was a bit more topical then, but still funny today.

I believe that one of the goals of getting rid of DADT, is to end of all-voluntary military, and ultimately bring back the draft, in a military that is more socially liberal, in other words, it will become just another social program.

They know getting rid of DADT will discourage patriots from signing up, and many currently serving will leave the first chance they get.

Got to preface that I have never been nor am I a particular fan of the ‘Donald’. However, nobody but nobody else on God’s green earth has shaken these liberal rulers quite like he has. God does work in mysterious ways and I really cannot help but have a smile as this liberal food fight unfolds...

I am assuming the four year period during which he received 2-S deferments was the period of his undergraduate education. I graduated from college in 1967, so he was a year younger than me. It was pretty much the rule in those days that you would get a 2-S deferment during your four undergraduate years. On graduation, you would be re-classified 1-A, and what happened after that depended on your circumstances and the needs or tolerance of your draft board. It doesn’t look to me like Trump got any special consideration in connection with the 2-S deferments.

“The youngest people who would have been drafted cannot have been born after 1955.”

I was born in 1953. Nobody born in 1953 was drafted, even if your number was one. I knew guys born in 1951 who were drafted and thier numbers were below 100. I have met a lot of guys who are younger than I am who claim they were drafted and sent to Vietnam....100% b.s. Nixon kept his campaign promise to end the draft.

At the bottom right it says “DISQ”.

You have to translate the classifications. He originally started his record in July of '64,(at the age of 18) with a student deferrment "2-S". Than continues until November of '66, when he was briefly eligible for immediate service (1-A), then quickly back to defferment. Then, in '68, presumably between undergraduate and graduate school, was again 1-A. THEN, in September of 68, at the ripe old age of 22, he has a physical, and gets classified as 1-Y "available for service", BUT only in the event of war, national emergency, or the like. This was granted to guys with medical conditions that were, ahem, limiting, but not disabling. Examples might include high blood pressure, severe allergies etc. BUT, at this point, he was technically subject to being drafted. The 1-Y classification was eliminated during the Nixon administration at the end of '71, and all of the guys who had been previously classified as 1-Y suddenly became 4-F, medically disqualified. Doubtless, that's the source of the "disq" notation at the bottom of the form.
