Governor Mitt Romney has signed into law a permanent assault weapons ban that he says will make it harder for criminals to get their hands on these guns.
Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts, Romney said, at a bill signing ceremony on July 1 with legislators, sportsmen's groups and gun safety advocates. These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.
Like the federal assault weapons ban, the state ban, put in place in 1998, was scheduled to expire in September. The new law ensures these deadly weapons, including AK-47s, UZIs and Mac-10 rifles, are permanently prohibited in Massachusetts no matter what happens on the federal level.
We are pleased to mark an important victory in the fight against crime, said Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey. The most important job of state government is ensuring public safety. Governor Romney and I are determined to do whatever it takes to stop the flood of dangerous weapons into our cities and towns and to make Massachusetts safer for law-abiding citizens.
The new law also makes a number of improvements to the current gun licensing system...
Romney = POS
2nd Amendment says nothing of recreation and self defense. If Mitt cannot understand ‘shall not be infringed”, the he is not qualified for any public office. Near as I can tell, he’s the same as Obama except for the islam.
Mitt Romney made it abundantly clear as Governor of Massachusetts that either he has no grasp of the constitution, or doesn’t care. Either way - and for a great many other reasons - he’s a poor choice for the Republican nomination.
What the hell is a Mac-10 rifle?
Pretty much like most semi-automatic hunting rifles. Except smaller (I think pistol size?) and large capacity magazines. And probably painted black.
And as has been posted earlier, the whole reason the 2nd Amendment exists is so that yes, you are able to chase down and kill people. At least people that are an enemy to America and the Constitution.

Um... they are designed for self defense. That is their purpose.
I am a constitutionalist 1st, then a conservative, then a republican, but never a RINO like Romney. So why should I vote for him?
Obviously, he´s never been in the service.
Need a definitive definition of what’s an assault weapon. Machine guns are illegal and have been for over 60 years. But what an assault weapon. The devil is in the details.
“But what an assault weapon.”
The Clinton AWB spelled it out in detail.
Exactly, if they were not deadly then they’d be useless for self-defense.
Are there any Mittwitts left on FR?
Big, bad guns make the mayonnaise sandwich “shiver” with fear!
“Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts, Romney said”
As opposed to ‘assault weapons’ that just make you go “Owie!, that stings!” when you get shot with them?

“These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense.”
I dunno. Last time I emptied a magazine from my uncle’s AR-15, I enjoyed the heck out of myself!

“They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.”
Be vewwy vewwy qwiet, I’m hunting my fewoah man, huhhuhhuh!

“and Mac-10 rifles”
I honestly didn’t know there was a carbine version of the Mac-10. I might have to get one now!
Nor have any of his five sons since you mentioned it. At least they aren’t draft dodgers though.
I had a sweet semi auto stainless steel Mac 11 for a while. Never even got a chance to shoot it before my buddy bought it. I miss that gun....but I have Uzi now so it’s all good.
