Here in WA you have to get a new plate every 7 years - required by law. The law states you must replace your license plates every 7 years when you renew your vehicle tabs and it is due to the reflective coating on the plates have only has a 5-year guarantee. And of course you are charged for the plate replacement.

Ah I only lived in WA for 4 years so I never got a new plate. And in NM I never changed cars, so ... have no idea what they do there.
