An attorney who has represented coaches and schools in hearings before the NCAA Committee on Infractions believes Ohio State and head football coach Jim Tressel will have difficulty avoiding stiffer penalties than those already proposed for Tressels admitted NCAA violations.

Hey c’mon! He apologized!
Yeah so did Clinton! Treacherous Tressel is a con man. He makes Rich Rodriguez look like a Saint! All I hope is the NCAA finds its testicles and finally brings the hammer down on OSU.
OSU is not going to get the nuclear option. That’s reserved for a lot worse, although Ohio State is trending closer to it.
But given this from the article: “The NCAA Enforcement Staff is now involved in the process, which means investigators are on campus digging into Tressels communications and interviewing witnesses.”
That’s dead man walking time for Tressel. Once the NCAA boys and girls show up at the school and investigating, they will uncover more dirt, and the school will have to act quickly before every dirty little secret is uncovered.
But by all means don’t just fixate on just Ohio State. Other programs like Nick Saban’s Alabama were word is he’s forcing Junior and Senior scholarship players that didn’t quite measure up to claim fake medical exemptions to free up more scholarships each year. The players are claiming they have no injuries that would keep them from playing while Saban and crew are claiming the kids are unable to play football anymore. It’s a classic “over-recruiting” scam which is a big no-no with the NCAA.
Or the University of Oregon aka Nike U, who recently got busted sending payments as big as 25K a pop for imaginary recruiting packages, when the money actually went to individuals who have some form of relationship with the familes who steered 4 and 5 star recruits to the school. They’ve also had recruits coming back from official school visits with tons of new Nike gear which is another major “buying players” no-no with the NCAA rules.
wow...I would bet dollars to donuts your a buckeye hater? Who do you root for? My bet is most of the programs cross the line in some form or fashion cheat the system. If you don’t believe that you are living with Rose colored glasses on.
The NCAA is a hypocritical bunch.
If there is no Nuclear Option for the NCAA anymore, does SMU have recourse?
I am a U of M fan. And U M has been hit by the NCAA more than once. But at no time did the University and it’s coaches pull the crap that Tressel, the AD, and even the Uni’s Pres pulled. I call em like I see em and OSU is plain corrupt.
I think right now we could see Tressel, athletic director Gene Smith and even Ohio State President E. Gorden Gee leaving the university under NCAA auspices in order to clean up the football program. This could set back the Ohio State football program a decade or more....
Like him or hate him, you NEVER saw IU sanctioned when Bob Knight was there.
Jusy sayin’
I agree this just isnt’ a problem with OSU. Many SEC schools engage in illegal behavior (including Mich State). Fact is MANY schools do. I wouldn’t hesitate to say that it happens at Michigan though I believe the school keeps a very close eye on it’s athletes since the Fraudulent 5 and the last practice scandal to hit the school. But, I do see where OSU could come out ok even if all three get thrown out. OSU will still attract great talent and great coaches. Bo Pelini is one I can see going back there to coach. And that would be a great hire for OSU assuming that Treacherous Tressel gets his ass thrown out.
So, will OSU have to forfeit last year’s games, you think?
Very possible. I think we could see something very similar to the scenario of what happened at USC.
Post season suspension for at least 1-2 seasons.
Reduction in scholarships for 2-3 years.
Tressel replaced.
Not sure if their bowl game will be voided, but could.
I believe this all could happen.
I can’t point this out strong enough. When the NCAA investigators actually arrive on campus, very bad things are in the works.
Five of the OSU shouldn’t have been playing to begin with. And being a Hog fan I’d like to see the bowl game forfeited. But, nothing will take away Mallet’s interception.
