What a Valentine's Day catch!
Looking for all the world like the cross between an alligator, a fish and dinosaur, the alligator gar is the largest freshwater fish in America. And with two rows of teeth, the predatory fish is also terrifying.
So you can imagine his surprise when Kenny Williams, from Vicksburgh, Miss., stumbled across what is being called the largest one ever caught on February 14. The tremendous fish measured 8 feet, 5 inches long, weighed 327 pounds, and was 48 inches around, reported WAPT.com.

“Don?t catfish sting you or something”
Their spines have a mucus on them that is a poison. I pricked my finger with one once and it numbed my whole arm.
On some Asian species these spines will deliver a toxin, but again, these are defensive measures and they do not deliver a "sting" so much as their attacker receives one. There is also the electric catfish in Africa that can deliver a good jolt much like the electric eel.
There used to be lots of BIG alligator gar in the White River of Arkansas back in the 1950s. they were fished out.
Umm, the sturgeon is the largest fresh water fish in North America. Facts and all that stuff, eh. Congrats on the gar! That had to be a blast reeling in that monster.
