Help we need pictures of Thud on this thread....He’s doing very well! First Dude all the way!
The racers are on the trail again! Well, not all. They’re in the process of releasing the layovers.
Disclaimer: I am not at all familiar with the procedures. I only repeat what I read as well as I understand it.
Palin/Quam are in the lead by 10 min. and out of Unalakleet as of about 25 min. ago.
The top 4 teams are within 20 min. of each other and the 5th place team is another 30 min. back.
It’s a coastal trail most of the way to Nome with part of it over sea ice in Norton Sound where the speeds will be very high. It’s a sprint on this leg.
Next stop — Nome. $10,000 for the first team there.
The first trail team has already arrived. It’s on the FB page.
One of the race officials posted an update from Team Perrins (Trail Class), the only team to make Nome so far.
They say they went on the ice out of Elim and found about 3 miles of thin, smooth ice and then about 1 mile of open water.
The race is marking the back trail over land, but who knows if other teams will risk it.
Trail Class is the amateurs. They raced ahead of the pro class. Todd is leading the pro class out of Unalakleet.
Thanks. I was wondering why some dared to be in from of Todd. Are they running over a shorter route, too?
Same route to Nome, but the Trail class race ends in Nome.
Earlier today, one of the pro class teams went over the sea ice at 97 mph. They were the 9th place team and have to take their last mandatory 10-hour layover before going to Nome, so they’re about to be passed by the leaders who are nonstop to Nome.
This must be one exciting race.
Thanks...One of my favorites.
Thanks again for your update. It’s been busy here today, no time for freeping until now.
Five minutes separate first and second. Eleven minutes separate first and third.
Too many thoughts are separating me from Morpheus. I must work at remedying that. Note to self: stop thinking!
Go Todd

Seems like they have been in Nome for a long time. Wonder if there is some kind of “half-way” ceremonies going on. Or do they all have to arrive there before they start them off again? Just wondering.
I’m thinking there is. I think there was a banquet last night. I could be wrong. But Nome does seem like a “refresher” stop.
Makes sense. They ran Sun, Mon, Tues (Nome on Wed), run, Thur, Fri, Sat.
come on Todd.....
