I’ll agree with you on ‘women who destroy the anthem.’
Also rap. Hate it.
There has to be one song that turns you on. :)

The songs that turned me on, turned on me.

(Not that I'm bitter or anything...)

My short list:

You are so Beautiful, Joe Cocker - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spsVigJCvNU

Best of My Love, The Eagles. A bittersweet love song, but this one runs deep for anyone who’s ‘been there’ - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaO-kgG7eCQ

Love Song, The Cure - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCtIih2HR8Y

66, Afghan Whigs. For me, this is the perfect “lover” song. Like a good relationship, it’s romantic, it’s passionate, and sometimes it’s just a little bit naughty - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Le1PS_WuJU

Righteous Bros. “Unchained Melody”, Elvis’ “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and Buddy Holly’s “True Love Ways.”
GREAT choices!

Lionel Ritchie's "Hello" - mine and my wife's song (24 years and going)!

I also enjoy Scorpion's "Still Loving You." I actually purchased the entire "Love At First Sting" album to get that song, because I could not find a single of "Still Loving You." Worked out well, turned out to have three or four truly great 80's rock anthems on it!

Billy Joel had some good ones. Among them;
We didn’t start the fire
Just the way you are
Only the good die young
She’s always a woman
For the longest time
Uptown girl’

‘Just The way You Are’ is a great love song.

.

For those who have loved and lost, two love songs with enduring meaning for me are SOUTHERN CROSS by Stephen Stills and IT HAPPENS EVERYDAY by Carly Simon.
