“Im not a football fan and Id be pissed off if I were a regular listener.”
If you were in Green bay and you aren’t listening to or watching the game Sunday, something is seriously wrong. Heck, they are closing stores, people are getting the day off.
If you wound up writing a letter to the editor about this, you would be laughed out of town. People here bleed green and gold. And those are the ones who do not follow Packer football. I’m in GB. It is serious.
Not to mention that many GB fans are owners of the franchise. GB takes football frenzy to a far higher level than elsewhere. It’s a discipleship.
In my home, I’m a Packers fan from the get-go. My wife was born in Pittsburgh yet through our 30 years of marriage has come to follow the ‘Pack’. Our son, through peer influence, is a Bears fan. Yet, all three of us are rooting for the Pack tomorrow. !!GO PACK!!
I’m NASCAR and baseball. My Brother in law is from Houghton Michigan and he’s a big Green Bay fan who lives in Detroit these days.
I remember coming home on leave for deer hunting back in the seventies. I really had no idea how dearly this state loves its Green Bay Packer football until I came home.
Every store, bar, or place you walked into on Sunday afternoon either had the game on the radio or on television. It was a real Revelation for me after being out of the state.
People in Green Bay wear Packer jerseys to funerals, weddings and church. I grew up there and now live less than 100 miles away. Even being that close now, there is a serious culture shock going back. The Packers are as deeply woven into the culture as can be. God, Packers, Family. Not always in that order.
If the station shut off their transmitters to save the electricity, no one would notice. No one goes out during regular season games - the Super Bowl will be even more pronounced. Green Bay - Chicago got a 60+ Rating in Green Bay (almost 2/3s of all TVs were tuned to the game(many of the others were probably off because people were viewing with others) To get publicity out of a zero listener period was brilliant.
