Which spectator was he counting on hitting? If he’s THAT good of a shot why doesn’t he try aiming the puck at the net.
The story says he hit the crossbar and the the ricochet sent the puck over the netting above the glass.

Asked if he was aiming at his bride, Shannon was quick to point out that he had really been aiming for the fan of a rival team.
“There was a Toronto Maple Leaf fan sitting next to her,” he said. “But I missed by a couple of inches.”
Earlier in the article it said the puck hit her in the leg and gave her a bruise. Luckily it wasn’t worse.
