Sequential Food Storage Part I - The skinny on avoiding the skinny. (Please Read!!)

Anyway, I can hear all Y’all saying, “What in Tarnation is Old Doctor Prepper rambling about?”

Well, here it is: We all need to provide for our families on a budget and provide food they will eat and; as a little side note, not get certain parties (Ahem) noticing what we are all doing.

This is a system developed to do just that. Survival experts will tell you to “Store what you eat, and eat what you store”, But what does that really mean?

This saying means buying food and supplies and storing them for the approximate time of their “Use by” dates and then consuming them, replenishing them as you do so.

You are “Sequentially” buying and storing foods you would normally eat so that IF the SHTF you will have at least several month accumulation of food and supplies for your family.

The only real downside to do this is that you will need to spend a little more to stock up and storage space for it all – but you were going to do that anyway, weren’t you? WEREN’T You?

Now, I’ve broken down these ideas into a series of postings so your eyes don’t all glaze over with a real long diatribe on my part.

To begin, I’ve divided the task up into the ABC’s – as in:

A – Assessment – I can’t tell you what your families needs are or what they will eat, you need to do that on your own. This part of the system simply means you take an assessment of your daily needs and what you normally stock in your pantry.

B – Buy – This is just the ins and out of an ongoing effort to stock up on food and supplies.

C – Cycle as in going through these supplies as a matter of normal routine. This is so that you always have relatively fresh inventory of food and supplies. An inventory of foods you family will already eat so that IF and when the SHTF, you will be ready.

Next week (Hopefully), I will post the second part of the series, stay tuned.

I don’t think I could easily eat my dogs.....not until they had done something really bad anyway.

And before someone questions the placing of this on the banglist, may I point out that food and other supplies are just as important as being able to defend yourself and your family.

Albeit, it’s not as Interesting as what is the best Sport Utility Rifle….. But it’s still important none the less.

My wife’s horse kicked me in the nuts once. I consider that really bad anyway.

We decided right there that when TSHTF we would eat her horse first. Well, we got rid of that horse and then my horse went lame. Wife said now we eat my horse first.

A very timely post. Please add me to your list when the post the rest of your series.

Now, if you don't mind, I will post a link to another relevant thread. And post a link to this one on that thread as well.

For those interesting in an ongoing survival thread, here's a great one. Lots to read and lots of info on prepping, food storage, food preparation, gardening, building, and news stories. And lots of great Freepers willing to share their expertise.

This cheese has a shelf life of 62 years and has been known to survive a nuclear blast and still make a Triskit palatable.

Mucho cheese here. Some other sites have canned varieties.

I hear rabbits helped keep a lot of people in meat in the Great Depression.
