A survey by the Kurdistan Minstiry of Health shows that 41 percent of women have gone under the practise of female genuital mutilation (FGM).
The survey was carried out in July this year. The results of the survey were announced during a campaign to raise awareness on violence against women in Kurdistan earlier this week.
Part of the campaign has focused on FGM. The survey by the government shows that mothers are the main party responsible for forcing their daughters experience the painful ritual and then grandmothers and fathers.

As if going thru life wearing a potato sack is not punishment enough, a clitorectomy, which is what female circumcision is, ensures a woman never experiences any sexual enjoyment.

Its a good thing the democrats keep women and children safe from any religion that would mutilate baby girls. Not to mention anyone that would murder a baby in mothers womb in the ultimate act of selfishness.

No, it is absolutely not for the same reason and certainly not at the same age. You cannot compare a days old infant’s less developed nerve response to an older child’s more developed nerve response, not to forget an older child’s more developed awareness, and you cannot compare medical and hygienic reasons to non-medical and sexual-response limiting reasons. Add to that, that adult men who get circumcised are usually the ones who decide whether or not they want the procedure; young girls are not allowed to decline and are unlikely to be informed of the negative consequences.

No, the male and female genital circumcision practices, are not, and have never been done “for the same reason”.
Also, while the terms used, such as “circumcision”, could imply a similar procedure, the actual procedures are in no way similar.
In male circumcision some portion or all of the foreskin covering the penis is removed, at least to a point that leaves the glans (head) freely exposed. The penis itself is not damaged. While opinions differ on whether the procedure is “more healthy” or not, there is little opinion that any ill health results from it or that the sexual experience of the male is seriously affected.
Female “circumcision” while practiced mostly by Muslims, in some countries is not a practiced required by Islamic teaching. Those Muslim countries where it is practiced are predominately in North Africa and the Middle East, and in countries where it is most dominant it is practiced by non-Muslims as well. It is not practiced by most Muslims who live outside those areas. Its major source of social demand is cultural, not religious, even though some give religious excuses for it.
Female “circumcision” is mutilation of the clitoris; or mutilation of the clitoris and the labia minora; or mutilation of the clitoris, labia minora and labia majora; or total removal of the clitoris; or total removal of the clitoris and the labia; or even more extensive alteration of the external female genital area.
The major affect of all the procedures - in addition to many health and safety issues with the performance of the procedures - is severe reduction or elimination of pleasure in sexual intercourse and under the procedures most frequently carried out sexual intercourse is a very painful experience.
Of course in societies where women are second class and always supposed to be under the control of their fathers or their husbands, female genital mutilation amounts to nothing less than a surgical procedure that is part of that social system to control the female’s sexual life.
You are exactly correct about the difference between male and female circumcision. Since women are chattle and are basically considered sub-human by muslim men, they do this as a means of power/control and also as a way to ensure that a woman will never cheat because she wouldn’t enjoy it. I may be wrong, but I thought men were circumcised more for hygenic reasons?
They just use the word ‘circumcision’ for women to make it sound like it’s no big deal and attempt to confuse the issue since they know male circumcision is a common practice in the Western world.
May I also add that FGM doesn’t necessarily take place in a medical facility...many times it’s the elder women of the village that take the young girl to some type of random location and perform this. I’ve read that this takes place in North African countries that practice Islam. It’s an extremely barbaric practice and needs to be stopped.

You left out the part about the honeymoon night. Once he cuts the stitches out and makes whoopie he proudly displays the bloody sheet to the family to prove her virginity. These people are NUTS!
I visited Egypt with friends, including a high-risk pregnancy ob/gyn who lectured at a couple of Cairo hospitals, so our schedule included several receptions with Egypt’s medical elite. At one of these do’s, an Egyptian doctor who spoke excellent English matter-of-factly let it drop that in Egypt, the female circumcision rate is NINE. TY. EIGHT. percent.
The bulk of his practice was devoted to dealing with incontinence, infertility, infections, and other horrible after-effects of this ritual maiming. In response to my jaw on the floor, he sheepishly added that they don’t normally let the ninety-eight-percent stat cat out of the bag in front of Americans; they know we “don’t like it.”
After Israel, Egypt gets the most American aid money. The Egyptian government could and would stop this barbaric practice in a heartbeat if we made it a condition of writing next year’s check. Why don’t we?
