“That is disgusting.”

Why on Earth is it disgusting to kiss (or see a photograph of someone kissing) someone whose political philosophy is different from yours? I have friends and relatives who I love, but whose political philosophies are to the left of mine. Should I never kiss them again? Should I stop loving them?

For example, my very conservative daughter believes abortion is extremely undesirable; but unlike me, she also believes the state should not, in most cases, interfere with a woman’s choice to have an abortion. Should I never hug or kiss her again? Should I stop loving her?

As another example, my very conservative, public-school-teaching wife, unlike me, opposes education vouchers. She believes they undermine the public’s commitment to equal educational opportunity. Should I never hug or kiss her again? Should I stop loving her?

From time to time, as I become more educated about a political issue, I change my mind about the issue. If I want to avoid being disgusting, how long should I give my loved ones to also change their minds before I stop kissing them?

It's the whole kissing thing for me. Not my cup of tea of how to greet people.
A handshake would do.
There should be rules against that kind of thing.
