the term New Testament Christian has very definite meaning

Were that the case, there would not be thousands of competing definitions of what it is.

See John 13:34-35,and James 1: 26-27.

The commandment of love and the perfect law of liberty do not preclude Christians from investing Peter's shadow and Paul's relics with awe.

The commandment of love would rather enjoin you not to uncharitably characterize their actions as inauthentically Christian and the law of liberty would allow any Christian to emulate their practices, which were not condemned by the Scriptures.

The Lord does not desire that there be “thousands of competing definitions” of Christianity. 1 Corinthians 1:10-13

You can hold them in awe without turning them into a ritual, or mimicking them on a regular basis, when there is no such command to do so.

Christian love does not extend to putting one’s head in the sand when Christianity is perverted by the whims of men. In fact, just the opposite: it is unloving to let a soul into eternal damnation when speaking out would affect a different outcome.

But, as Paul said in his letter to the Philippians, “Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling”.

FRegards
