HUAC - Not a very good idea.

Posted on 10/25/2010 7:42:50 PM PDT by Strk321

I have heard Savage and some others calling for the return of the House Un-American Activities Committee. While that may sound like a good idea on the surface, in fact it would be a terrible mistake. I found several threads on Dunderground discussing how a revived HUAC could be used to investigate talk radio, the Tea Party, this site, Fox News, etc.

I'd like to hear people's thoughts on this.

The biggest UnAmerican in America is the Metrosexual-in-Chief himself? Herself? Itself? Just keep track of the high crimes and misdemeanors and investigate the ole Kenyan himself. (Herself? Itself?) It’s very confusing.

For the umpteen hundredth time, it was NOT the House Un-American Activities Committee. THAT monicker was given it by the left-wing press to ascribe un-American activities to the committee itself. The committee was really the HCUA — the House Committe on Un-American Activities.

I’m of the belief that the ballot box is better at solving the problems of government than an open-ended congressional witchhunt would be, even though there may indeed be a few witches here and there.

P.S. I think Michael Savage is very intelligent, but highly unstable.

Would this be the opposite of Obama declaring the American citizenry are the terrorists?

Smarter I think relentless exposure and ridicule.

Get them out of the schools.

A frontal attack not wise.

That committee was formed to investigate communist influence within the government and society. Other committees have been formed throughout different times to investigate Bolshevik and Nazi influences. If it were a committee tasked with specifically investigating Islamo Fascist influence within the government and society I guess that would be okay. However, I don't see any direct Islamo Fascist influence within the government right now. Though there certainly is Islamo Fascist influence in society (CAIR). However, at this point, would we be stomping on the toes of other agencies within the FBI and Homeland Security that are already investigating this stuff? In the end, I really don't think we need it.

I fully agree. I remember the '50s and '60s and the very thing of which you speak.

The problem is when Savage, et al say bring back the House Un-American Activities Committee, how does that sound? What is the message to the apolitical? That helped destroy the Committee.

Absolutely the left used the name "House Un-American Activities Committee" to malign and destroy the Committee. -- and that was before Alinksy wrote his book Rules For Spoiled Brats or something like that. It worked back then and the tactics are working today.

If you used the proper name for the committee I think that such worries would never have arisen. Please see replies below about the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

HUAC was a CP/USA, progressives, et al term used to malign the Committee.

The liberal inquisition:

Have you now, or ever, listened to Rush Limbaugh?

Have you now, or ever, owned a weapon?

Have you now, or ever, voted Republican?

Have you now, or ever, criticized liberalism?

Have you now, or ever, read an article written by a conservative?

Have you now, or ever, attended church?

Have you now, or ever, considered marrying someone of the opposite sex?

Have you now, or ever, considered not aborting a child?

Have you now, or ever, opposed higher taxes?

Have you now, or ever, resisted Islam?

Exactly. That’s a pretty comprehensive list. I think you left out one small question: “Do you now or have you ever reject(ed) Obamao as The Messiah?”

Obama will love this bright idea! It’s in the same file as opening a constitutional convention, aka, “Pandora’s Box”.

UnAmerican activities folks are not foreign, but are generally direct products of our public schools, K-12, universities and academia, with no abatement in sight. Elections have NEVER changed this direction, therefore, what change can we hope for in the future?

My family had a blacksheep that went before HUAC.

HUAC was absolutely correct at the core of the raison d’etre, Soviet agents were putting tens of millions of dollars into the Communist, Socialist and Marxist and Racial Identiy groups on a yearly basis, back when tens of millions of dollars was real money.

Harry Reid’s current press secretary is a Marxist La Raza agitprop agent married to a Lebanese man who is a suspect in the Oklahoma City bombing. This was just revealed... TODAY in the mainstream media.

Given some resources it wouldn’t be hard to name 40 to 80 thousand foreign agents roaming around the United States right now... estimates of several thousand Chinese spies (mostly commercial espionage) in the US at any given time.

Politics is another form of warfare... if the Fed brings out another $1.X trillion in QE3 the day AFTER the election... and further refuses to divulge any info on the $300B stolen from taxpayers’ grandchildren and given directly to Citi’s stockholders and bondholders and executive bonus pool... why should we fear politicians’ going ape wild throwing accusations of treason around on Capital Hill?

The system of graft works until it doesn’t, then it all falls down.

I think when Savage suggested reviving HUAC (which he mentioned again on his 10/25 show), he probably overlooked the fact that Pelosi and her crew could use it on the right wing in America.

Remember that it was never a crime in America to simply espouse Marxism or to be a member of the Communist Party (even in the 1950s). That’s protected by the 1st Amendment. What they were concerned about were Soviet agents who were trying to infiltrate the government and the military. The left would have you believe that Joe McCarthy was sending goon squads out to beat up and imprison people for simply expressing their political views.

And my apologies, I did get the name of HUAC wrong.
