It holds the record for the longest theatrical release in history, having never left cinemas since its 1975 debut. Now the Rocky Horror Picture Show could be set for a new lease of life after it was reported that studio heads are courting Ryan Murphy, creator of the TV series Glee, to take charge of a remake.
Murphy has met with studio executives at Twentieth Century Fox offshoot Fox 2000 to discuss the project, but has not yet committed. He recently shot a Rocky Horror-themed episode of Glee, which is due to air in the US on October 26.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show has made more than $100m (£63m) worldwide since its release, and still draws audiences to midnight screenings at which fans dress in costume and talk back to the screen. The original film was written by cast member Richard O'Brien and was based on the British stage version, with many of the cast reprising their roles.

Budget US $1.2 million
Gross revenue US $139.8 million
Pretty good rate of return. And without Autotune.
Maybe The Situation as Brad ? Probably Liza Minnelli as the Criminologist.
Ahhhhh, youth. 69 times at the theater and once or twice other places. Yes, I was a geek.
One just knows they will totally screw it up.
And why does it need a remake?
Especially by the creator of one of the most overrated shows on TV.
Stupid. Anybody in to that movie is in to THAT movie. And I swear, if they cast Zac Efron in the Barry Boswtick role, I’m headin’ up to the bell tower.
OH GAWD NO!!!!
They’ll F**K up this classic too!!!!
The same goes with “Shock Treatment”.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
99 times and lovin it :)
Time’s a comin for the yearly trek to the theater (Halloween 12:01am).
Anyone go to the 25th anniversary in Las Vegas?

Remakes, remakes, remakes. And they wonder why people stopped watching movies. The downturn probably coincided with the switch from creative works to reworks.
I would much prefer a sequel with Sarandan, Bostwick, Meatloaf, and Curry (not the sequel that actually was done). Same type of low cost budget with profit sharing on the film by all four - make it cheap and in the same fashion. Let the audience figure out the cues again (it might be better for the script writer to never seen an actual Rocky “performance” if such a thing is possible). Given the work Bostwick, Meatloaf, and Curry have currently, they probably would jump at the chance. Probably not Sarandan, but despite her crazy liberal leanings, she seems like a pretty fun person that might bite at the chance for a huge payday.
Doesn’t everyone want to see what Transsexual Transylvania is all about especially through the eyes of Brad and Janet? Don’t worry about Frank being dead - it is bad scifi remember, and even though the Meatloaf has been partially consumed - something could be worked out. Actually get as much of the cast back as you can (follow the bouncing hump once again).
Hey, what ever happened to the "Casablanca" remake the Madonna was trying to do?
1) Dr. Frank-N-Furter = Obama
2) Riff Raff-Rahm Emanuel
3) Janet Weiss =Naci Pelosi
4) Brad Majors = Joe Biden
5) Columbia the groupie = Katie Couric
6) Eddie(Meatloaf) the delivery boy = Bill Clinton
7) Magneta = Hilary Clinton
That would get me into the Bell Tower - Evita almost did.
Some things just shouldn't be redone. Casablanca. The Godfather. RHPS.
It will get screwed up, and not make any money. I have seen two "remakes" by theatre groups. While mildly entertaining, they were different, never better.
Dammit, Janet! Don't re-make it.
They are showing it up the street this month on Saturday nights at midnight.
They show it in other places every Saturday night at midnight.
Why in God’s name would you remake something that is still making money.
When you have a product that makes money with no production costs, it is making nearly a 100% return, year over year over year.
Sure, lets make a new product with a huge production cost.
Idiots.
They call it show business for a reason. I am wondering where the accountants are.
I’m going to paint a new Mona Lisa. It’ll be better than the original, you’ll see.
Remakes better than original:
The Thing (walkaway winner)
Batman/Batman Begins (walkaway especially when continuity sequels are considered The Dark Knight may be the best comic to film ever made versus Batman Returns)
Cape Fear
The Fly (difficult time with this one)
Worst remakes ever:
Rollerball (easily the worst remake of all time - they totally missed the point of the first movie which stands up so well over time)
Planet of the Apes
Psycho
Godzilla
The Day the Earth Stood Still
any number of horror remakes
Fortunately I have skipped a bunch of remakes so I will not comment on them. Lesson to be learned - don’t do remakes unless the original was a putrid mess and you still see value in the idea.
Of course it will, she'll have a better smile. And I'll put the arms back on Venus.
Some people simply cannot see the obvious. Not every idea is a good idea.
Midnight Double Feature.
Been almost 30 years since I last saw that flick and yet I can remember all the cues and my "prop list" of stuff we would bring to the theater. Would I let my now teenage kids see it? NOT ON YOUR LIFE!! LOL
You've got that right!
My wife and I were visiting this weekend and her brother insisted we watch an episode of "Glee"(since we hadn't seen the show before).
"Glee" is nothing more than a teen movie storyline with interruptions of music videos.
