The first item is the Shamrock Shake. This was a minty-green milkshake that was on the menu during March (in honor of St. Patrick's Day). I really miss that shake.
The other item was the fried-clam belly roll. Basically it a clump of delicious fried clam bellies (without the strips) jammed into a toasted, buttered roll.
Both these items disappeared from menus after the 1970s and that was a real shame.
You’re in luck! (unintended pun, but guess it works LOL)
Here in the Pocono Mountains.... our local McDonalds has the Shamrock Shake every spring for several weeks. Come visit :-)
I love fried clam bellies!
The green shake I remember — drawing a blank on the clam thing.
McD’s had a so-called crabcake sandwich for a short time. Sorry, but no self-respecting Merlinder girl eats her crabcakes at McD’s.
I think I remember reading in Ray Krok's autobiography that he axed the clam thing himself. It was too outside of what to him McD's was all about.
Shamrock shakes also available in NJ around March 17th. We now call them ShamWOW shakes. Also, the pic you have of the clam bellies, note the McD’s Lobster Rolls at upper right... I’ve have had one in Maine, once... just to say I had one in Maine, once.
Oh wow...totally forgot about the Shamrock Shake. Good times.
In Nova Scotia they have McLobster on the menu.
Burger King had a hot ham ‘n cheese sandwich called the Yumbo years ago; that disappeared too.
The McRib is one of the more disgusting things I’ve ever had, dont even want to think what went into it. The Shamrock shake isn’t gone, I had a few around St Patricks Day 2010. I don’t know where you live but I see them at every McDonalds in the area during that time period.
I still get a shamrock shake every time St Patrick's day rolls around...Mercifully, our McDonald's uses mint ice cream, as God and nature intended.
