(Johnny) Depp Surprises School Kids

OH to be a kid again.

Hollywood Lord JOHNNY DEPP was a surprise guest at a London school's assembly this morning.

The actor - who is currently filming the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie in Greenwich - took some time out to make an impromptu trip to Meridian primary school dressed as his character Captain Jack Sparrow. His visit came after one of the school's pupils, Beatrice, wrote a letter to him saying: "Captain Jack Sparrow, at Meridian Primary School we are a bunch of budding young pirates and we were having a bit of trouble mutiny against the teachers.

"We'd love it if you could come and help. From Beatrice De Lap aged nine, a budding pirate."

Teachers only found out the actor was coming ten minutes before he arrived and parents were shocked when their kids came running out telling them what had happened.

Never a dull moment with Johnny.

If he had his costume pirate weapons with him and had done this in the US he would have been arrested.

Good on him. Yeah, he’s a commie but he’s a damn fine looking commie and this was a nice act. Plus, he put his money where his mouth was and left the USA. I wish all of our lefties would do the same.

“But you have heard of me.

I can’t help but to like the guy, despite his politics.

Another argument in favor of home schooling.

Ugh, I wouldn’t want my kids exposed to that wildly overpaid narcissitic skank with poor hygeine & terrible teeth.

There was a time when astronauts came to kids’ schools.

But, hey that’s just me.

Same here. Most talented actors and actresses are at least a slight bit deranged, so any opinions from their own minds as opposed to a script should be taken as if they came out of a padded cell. Depp is a VERY talented actor, always fun to watch, and his response to this little girl’s letter was great.

Let kids be kids, and have a few moments of fun. I’d prefer the kids have an hour of pirate talk over another hour of global warming indoctrination or any of the other wasted assembly time topics.

I’d type a response, but I think I’ve just melted.

Yes, he’s a lockstep conformist to Hollywood liberalism, but, God forgive me, he’s a PRETTY lockstep conformist to Hollywood liberalism.

Wow, that's awesome! Good for Johnny!

He and his girlfriend, along with Tim Burton and Danny Elfman, are a great movie-making combination.

OMG! I feel EXACTLY the same way. I see him on screen and just repeat to myself over and over, “Forget about the lib stuff, forget about the lib stuff.” Loved him in Public Enemies.

I know a lot of people didn’t care for him as Willie Wonka, but I thought he was great, and actually much closer to the book, than Gene Wilder.

He did a great job as Willy Wonka. He portrayed the character in a sufficiently subtle and subdued manner so that attention was directed at Willy Wonka and the boy. Other actors would have been more concerned about making the movie about them.

As for Depp as a person?...Well...I don't think much of him.

In Willy Wonka Depp only reminded me of Michael Jackson, with a peculiar attraction to children. (shudder)

I will only allow my children to watch the original Wonka film with Wilder.
