Well, Jupiter wouldn't be in that area of the sky that many months ago. I think Saturn was in that general area, but it isn't near as bright as Jupiter.
As a wild guess, without knowing just where in the sky you were looking and in what month, I'd guess Sirius seven months ago. One of the brighter stars, and does have a reputation for appearing to sort of flicker in various colors, particularly when it is closer to the horizon.
