The Good Alternative to Koran burning: Ban the Importation of Oil

Posted on 09/10/2010 3:22:53 PM PDT by wendy1946

Want to do something which would actually have a severe impact on all the lunatic regimes of the world and most of the lunatics? In fact, which would pretty much shut them all down permanently?

The United States should be exporting oil and not importing it, but the only way to get from here to there is the same way anybody gives up smoking. The idea would be to totally ban all importation of oil to the United States while simultaneously putting the exploitation of every energy resource available to us on a war footing with emphasis on those which could be exploited most quickly.

This would mess us up about as badly as we were messed up during WW-II for about a year and for that year every sort of motor sport and probably the use of RVs and SUVs would have to cease but, at the end of that year, we would be vastly better off than we've been over the last 40 years and the lunatics would be totally and permanently snaffed.

The theory I'm still waiting to hear is how anybody thinks FDR and Ike would have prosecuted WW-II while buying oil from Adolf Hitler for 80 dollars a barrel.

I’d rather suggest a forced take-over of their oil-fields as compensation.

What says you?

Obama has made sure that we cannot explore or drill for our own oil. Keeping his muslim buddies happy.

No. We have our own. No need to play empire builder.

Looks good on paper, but when OPEC banned exporting oil to us in the 1970’s, it was not pretty (I was a pre-teen at the time, but remember it well).

Agreed. Now people here are starting to think. The problem is they control our govt, courts and other institutions. They particularly control TV.

These enviro groups and the Dems block off Fed land is all for the Saudis, Kuwait, UAE, etc.

I’d be happy with a net of near Zer0. I’m fine with importing oil from Canada.

And since we get most of our imported oil from Canada, this thread is idiotic.

I disagree. The secret today is we have immense supplies of natural gas that could last a long long time. Much of it has come online or is coming online. Why now? Horizontal drilling.

We have a lot more energy arround the 48 states and Alaska onshore on Federal Land and private land. The states need to grab it back and develop it.

Nah, I say buy all their oil at low prices. After it’s gone, all they have left is sand. Use their oil first.

... use some of it to burn some korans.

“...anybody thinks FDR and Ike would have prosecuted WW-II while buying oil from Adolf Hitler for 80 dollars a barrel.”

Hitler did not have control of 5 out of 6 TV networks.

China, India and other countries would pick up the slack. The muzzies would suffer for a year just as us but then it would be back to business.

The idea would be to totally ban all importation of oil to the United States while simultaneously putting the exploitation of every energy resource available to us on a war footing with emphasis on those which could be exploited most quickly.

To do that, we would first have to ban "environmentalism" which has us at the mercy of the foreign oil traders.

Once we ban the environmental wacko ideas, we can bet back to exploring and developing all of our energy needs right here at home.

No, we don't have to get rid of all environmental ideas, like clean air and clean water, but we can certainly eliminate the idea that coal and oil are dirty and are killing the planet.

If we didn't have the environmentalists (and the democratic party enabling them) interfering with the production of our own energy needs, I'm pretty sure we would now be independent from the foreign oil countries; if not completely independent of them, then for sure, we'd be at a point were we wouldn't have to kiss their collective butts.

Thank you for bringing this up. I thought this was true. But if so, why do we deal with the ME? Conventional wisdom is that the US is tied to them because of oil.

This is one area in which liberals and conservatives can come to a meeting of the minds. Reducing the amount of oil we import is a very good thing - for the libs because it supposedly saves Gaia and stops global warning and for us because it defunds Muslims.
