The Kennedy Center Honors this year will fete Oprah Winfrey, Paul McCartney, Bill T. Jones, Merle Haggard and Jerry Herman. The ceremony will be held December 5 and will be turned into a two-hour CBS special to be broadcast December 28. The honorees were selected for their American cultural contributions.

I don’t know about McCartney, but Streisand said she would have preferred to wait. Still, both she and Bush were gracious at the actual event.
This is awarded for their accomplishments in their cultural field. Not for their politics.
No, that doesn’t mean McCartney isn’t a jackass. But it also doesn’t disqualify him for this honor.
Accomplishments in the field of daytime talk show host?
Oprah has built an empire as a talk show host, publisher, producer, actress. I agree that I find that one a bit “iffy.” The honor goes to artists who have influenced American culture.
Is Oprah an artist? I don’t know if I’d call her that.
But, I don’t get to vote.
Yes, both Streisand and Pres. Bush were gracious. That was nice to see.
