Really? What issue?
March 1967, Roman Polanski took the photos - I think. In a weird sense of things to come - Sharon Tate was in Playboy the same month that Charles Manson was released from prison.
Within a month he had moved in with Mary Brunner who worked less than a mile from where Abigail Folger worked, both on the UC Berkeley campus. Folger’s mother was a volunteer at the Haight-Ashbury Free Medical Clinic where Manson and a lot of the members of his “family” were treated (apparently they had recurrent Clap problems). Abigail Folger helped her mother with fundraisers at the clinic. Abigail Folger also donated money to help a theater that was located near where Manson and Brunner lived and donated money to help the film projects of a man who lived with Bobby Beausoleil (another of the “family” members).
An undercover FBI Agent told Ed Sanders that he had seen Folger and Manson together at a dinner in San Francisco in September of 67. She had reportedly donated money to Manson’s cause as well. Oddly, that same month she quit her job and moved to NYC.
In August of 1968 she and Frykowski moved into a house very near Mama Cass Elliot and they became friends. Freakily and creepily who should start hanging out at Elliot’s house but Manson and his “family”. Also around was William Mentzer aka Manson II.
I’ve often wondered if Abigail Folger wasn’t part of the reason for the murders. I think Charlie had a thing for her and she refused him.
Doesn’t anyone else think it was odd for Roman Polanski to invite them to house-sit while he and Sharon was in Europe? They already had a caretaker and a housekeeper. I think maybe he was trying to protect them, to get them out of the house near Elliot.
I don’t know - it was all so surreal. One thing is certain, Folger’s boyfriend got the worst of it, as far as beating, and stabbing goes. Then there is the thing about Abigail’s birthday, she was supposed to fly to SF the morning of the 9th to celebrate with her family.
I’m sorry, I just rambled out a whole bunch of stuff you probably didn’t want to know. It happens.
Wow, that must have been terrifying. I can’t imagine. I used to have nightmares about it and I lived completely across the country.
Excellent point!!!
PING
He absolutely did, but he was the largest man around and a big target if you want to kill everyone else in the house you take him down first.
No weapons to protect themselves in a very expensive house, wonder why.
I’m not sure he was the first. I think Susan Atkins totally lied when she said the murders took a half-hour. There were witnesses who called police reports in up to 4 am about stuff going on. That would mean 4 1/2 hours at the house. Lots more going on than we’ve been told.
