Actually, the original story about Favre possibly retiring originally came from the Minneapolis Star-Tribune and (I think) Jay Glazer at FoxSports.com--both "mainstream" sources. As such, since this is not coming from a weblog site, ESPN decided to go with the story, and it didn't take long for ESPN reporter Ed Werder to be in Hattisburg, MS to be on top of this story. I believe it was Werder who reported that Favre was going to Dr. James Andrews for an examination this coming week to check up on the hurt ankle to verify if Favre can still play.
