Here is video of CBS News Anchor Katie Couric during the 2008 Presidential Campaign being caught on video mocking Sarah Palin and her family during a practice session just days before the Republican National Convention.
Couric is seen mocking the name of Palins son Track after reading his name, and later doing the same with the name of Palins hometown Wasilla, Alaska.
The video is instructive in that it shows the behind-the-scenes bias against Palin that was actually quite obvious during broadcasts as well.

Hardly surprising.
They don’t even attempt to hide it anymore.
Just confirms what we all suspected. It would be interested to know what the ruling class thinks of the average voter.
This is over reaching. She asked where they come up with the name Track. It is not an unordinary question.
When they are guilty of bias and unethical journalism, slam them. This is not one of those cases. Counter productive to claim it is.
What? You mean Katie isn’t as sweet as apple pie? Who knew? /sarcasm
On another thread someone had a good point. Liberal Hollywood celebrities give their kids all kinds of weird names. But Couric would never make fun of them.
Nope, not counter-productive.
We know for a fact that Couric is biased and as MINOR as this may be, it IS evidence, as you can rest ASSURED she would never make fun of the name “Shaniqua” or “Barak” ....
[She asked where they come up with the name Track]
Actually, she says, “Where the hell do they get these names from...”
I thought his name was Trigg. Was a deliberate mispronunciation part of the mocking?
Couric is just a deceived liberal hack.
Sarah never should have given her the time of day, much less an interview.
I disagree this over reaching. What I found typical and ‘biased” is her arrogant , patronizing and disgusted attitude to anyone outside of Washington, NYC or San Francisco or outside of any elite liberals.
Her attitude to the public in general shows clearly, her mocking Palin’s lifestyle ( and the crew you hear in the background) —hunting, mooseburgers..and making fun of the town’s name. Sure, it is not unusual to joke around or to ask about the name...it is Couric’s attide and that of her crew..that is hardly objective or even being inquisiitve.
It IS NOT over-reaching. Did you watch the video? She is clearly mocking Sarah. When she reads the part about Sarah’s hunting, she says, “You can’t make this up.”
imagine if Palin had derided the loss of katie’s husband or his condition or his name?
Here oldest son is named Track.
A name like Track or Trig is certainly no dumber than Pilot Inspektor or Moxie Crimefighter.
Yeah agreed. I know the knee-jerk reaction with a lot of people here is to defend Palin at all costs but IMO Sarah is a bit of a...well she brings mockery upon herself sometimes.
Some examples:
Childrens names, seriously Trig, Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper...that’s a pretty goofy set.
Defending Rush using the term “retard” about 600 times in one show as satire but criticizing Rahm for using the same word once as offensive.
Twittering words that don’t exist and then comparing herself to Shakespeare when called on it. Good lord...even as a joke that was bound to backfire.
I mean she doesn’t exactly avoid ridicule with these sorts of decisions. Is it deserved? No. Surprising? Not at all.
I am going to run now...
Overeach and thin skin is going to kill us, if we don’t get a grip. Given that we all know Couric can’t stand Palin, (but she dinigrates all conservatives)this was as mild a jibe as one could hope for.
Hawking this non-story as a story is what repulses independents, who are the ones who will seal our fate in 2010-12. We have real assaults happening out there against our Constitution and all we can front page is Katy being quizzical over unique names? Good grief.
But she made some other comments that they lowered the volume. I have a feeling she did cross a line.
