You forgot to mention that most all of the white population of the southern states - everyone who had served the Confederacy in any way - was block fro voting. It was a rigged election cycle.
SS, again, the Republican landslide was nationwide, not so much in Louisiana. The southern states hadn’t been re-admitted to Congress yet.
