Quick! Run! Here comes the new fat czar with a tape measure! In case you spent last week under a rock there are a couple of news stories you need to know about, so sit down and take a deep breath.

Good grief, indeed.
I have a question. Why are people cooperating with any of this? Because they say it’s the law or what? Is it fear?...I’m quite prepared to say no and am looking for those professional as well as other people to say no as well. NO...I will not comply. PERIOD...
31 for me. All my 32 pants are resting on the “ghetto line” showing my “crack”.
This is a government that is literally out for its pound of flesh.
When humans were nothing more than savage beasts, they “took care” of their older tribal members by taking away their food. These unfortunate souls, robbed of their food, soon died from malnutrition.
As this nation ages (i.e. the Baby Boomers), the ancestral mechanism that kept people alive as they got older, is causing weight gain on a demographic scale. As a person ages their biological makeup is designed to store calories in fat to enable survival when food is scarce (as when they are robbed of their food). Now the government is thinking that they should curb these older people’s calorie intake, much like was done in earlier times. This will only cause malnutrition as people attempt fail to maintain a nutritious diet while trying to comply with the government’s regulations. It will cause eating disorders like anorexia.
The weight gain in our nation’s youth is a reflection of what happens when a society has created a climate of fear for children to go outside and play. Too many children are fearful that they have no safe place to ride their bikes or play games. They would rather have the safety of their own living room with ready access to low activity video games and calorie ridden snack foods. Many parents promote this safe route because they are fearful of the possibilities (whether real or unreal) and transmit their fears to their children.
I know mine is not where it should be, but I am working on it slowly but surely.
Uncle Sam can have my ‘finger’.
My waist size is.44
That was a great explanation about older people.
Something for me to ponder.
Ever visit your doctor? Does a technician record your height and weigh you? Shazam! You've just disclosed your BMI . And what's between you and your doc is betweeen you and your doc... and your insurer... and Uncle Sam... and Michelle Obama.
I say, "Brilliant observation," as I slap my head over the blinding flash of the obvious.
Yep...you are right. That’s the first thing. This annual checkup I think I will refuse just to see what happens. My doc is conservative so it should be interesting.
They need to start with Michelle’s! Especially her FAT BEHIND.
Same response I have when sales clerks ask for e-mail, zip codes, etc...”No”
But, the annual reporting of your BMI will be one more data point in your nationalized health history. I fear that it will become a major determinate as to what types of treatment and the duration of that treatment available to you as you age.
Look at the various causes of all evils that we have seen in the last 100 years - alcohol, second hand smoke, obesity, algar, red dye # 4, man caused global heating, etc. All have some basis in medical/scientific literature. But, like almost all POLITICALLY motivated movements, when you make a detailed examination you discover that they, like water and oxygen, are lethal only in laboratory studies where the exposure is many hundreds of times of what the average person would be exposed to during their lifetime.
Yes, we are fat. But, I much prefer President Kennedy's approach (a national awards program for exercise, 50-mile endurance walks, and pictures of the first family playing touch football) than providing a bean counter with “justification” to deny medical support>
These excercise programs were a great way to create a generation of fit children. As the lawyers increase the possibility of lawsuits for anything that goes wrong; even a kid tripping on the track course is a lawsuit in the making. This impacts the cost of insurance for such fitness ventures; something that school districts are reluctant to spend.
