"LOL - that’s not really how it works, is it?" Yes, I believe that is exactly how it works. I'm not sure if there was a unanimous 2nd place school, but even if there wasn't I think someone will be awarded the Championship.
It's just like the Olympics. When someone is stripped of their Gold, the Silver medalist gets the gold instead.

LOL - that’s not really how it works, is it? The AP has already said that USC will retain its #1 ranking with them. The BCS will vacate USC's win, but will not name a new champion. There will not be one for that year.
