FORT MILL, S.C. A 3-year-old boy is recovering after a pit bull tore off part of his ear and a chunk of his face.
Trenton Myers bears the scars from his encounter with Bo-Bo last week at a mobile home park on Josh's Court in Rock Hill.
"We were over at some friend's house and he went to pet the dog and the dog pretty much latched onto him," said Teresa Myers, Trenton's mother.
No one disputes that the dog attacked Trenton. The question is, why?
The dog's owner says that Trenton's mother recklessly encouraged him to get too close to a dog that was labeled dangerous.
"He's got padlocks on his chain to make sure that he don't get to anybody, and I've got 'beware of dog' signs on this tree and that tree, so the mother had warning," said Jacquline Weldon.
"No, sir. That is not what happened," Myers responded. "While the attack was going on they did nothing to try and get their dog off of my baby. They stood around and watched the attack happen."
Trenton has extensive facial injuries. His ear was torn off and he has scarring around his cheek. His mother said she believes the dog should be euthanized.
"I don't want the dog back. There is a lot of kids that live in that neighborhood," Myers said.
Weldon said she intends to fight to keep her dog.
"It's not like he got off the chain and went over and attacked this child. He was on his chain," she said.
The dog is being held at animal control under a 10-day quarantine. A judge will decide whether the dog will be returned to the family.

I have been told, repeatedly, that attacks like this are rare.
Concealed carry is for four-legged varmints as well.
Well, he was chained so that makes it all ok then. /s/
Two strikes here (I am probably being insensitive):
1. pit bull
2. mobile home park
Eight-year-old boy, mom mauled by dogs
Of course, down in the comments section of the story, local pit bulls owners are all saying that the breed is perfectly safe, but that some only become vicious because of poor training.
Yeah, right, whatever.
There are some incredibly stupid people out there.
The owner knew the dog would bite.
She then blames the mother.
The owner is to fight to keep the dog.
Everyone involved is a moron, except the poor kid who cannot be expected to know any better.
One hard hit with a ball-peen hammer between the eyes will stop the dog from biting also will stop him from barking.
True.
Just a caution.
One I tell my kids every time they want to pet a dog.
“Everyone involved is a moron, except the poor kid who cannot be expected to know any better.”
I have a husky mix

Cant tell you how many times some small child ( with parents watching) have run up to my dog and grabbed the dogs face
You are right .idiot owners idiot parents
I grew up with pits, my oldest son grew up with a pit, hes 36 now, my youngest son grew up with a pit he is 19 now...if they are so dangerous tell me why anyone that hs ever owned one, would never own a different breed....Its not our fault some people are just plain stupid...
It’s amazing how many people come out of the woodwork when ole chet99 posts anything about a pit bull....I seriously doubt whether any one of them would know one if they saw one......sounds like a bunch of democraps piling on the next cause....
“he went to pet the dog and the dog pretty much latched onto him,”
But Chet, he tried to PET the dog. PET him. If that isn’t provocation, I have no idea what is.
“Its not our fault some people are just plain stupid...”
You are so right, that 3 year old little boy is such a dumb*ass.
(sarc)
Guess who gets to pay the bill...?
Anyone?
Really?
Ask the owner who’s Pit has chewed his daughter’s face off.
