EIGHTIES pop legend Adam Ant has been committed to psychiatric care after ranting at Christians during a Church Hall event.
The troubled star, who suffers from bipolar disorder, was hospitalised on Tuesday night in London.
An unspecified incident led to the 55-year-old singer being taken into care, according to the Adam and the Ants website.
"Adam is currently undergoing initial psychiatric assessment and more details will follow when appropriate. Ant Lib Online would like to wish Adam all the best in his recovery," it said.
A message sent by the star - whose real name is Stuart Goddard - read: "Ant fans - please send me postcards at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, Fulham Road.
"Please don't come down here as it may upset the staff who have been really pleasant. I am having a well earned rest at Her Majesty's Pleasure and am painting and continuing being an art student. I have a great view and am considering gigs later in the year."
Ant stunned fans at a gig in Portsmouth, southern England, last week when he invited a four-year-old boy up on stage and tried to teach him the words to The Who song My Generation.
As some fans began to leave he screamed abuse at them before asking if there were Christians there and telling them to "f*** off".
The singer has been detained under the mental health act several times since 2003. In that year he was hospitalised after being found naked in a cafe basement following a dispute with a neighbour.
The previous year, he was arrested when he threatened drinkers in a London bar with a fake gun.

Drone Ant
Liberalism is a mental disorder. But I do hope he has a complete recovery.
none so subtle innuendo ...
Wow-! Another fruit loop crawls from the woodwork-! He’ll likely wind up in Obama’s cabinet....
I think being bi-polar is one of the worst afflictions I can think of. Had a sister-in-law that was bi-polar. It’s a nightmare.
Me too. But when you're 55 and have these things happen, it's getting late in the game. God is not mocked, we reap what we sow and the 40s and 50s are often harvest time for celebrities living the fast lane high life.
As long as he draws breath God is giving him the opportunity to repent. That doesn't mean there are no consequences to what one has done in the past, but it means all the difference in eternity.
“Must be something inside”.
Is this that sexually ambiguous, foppishly dressed, skinny little lower class English guy from the eighties?
I know, I know ... “which one?”
The last time I saw Adam Ant do anything new, he was on an episode of Northern Exposure and that show ended 15 or more years ago. He was a has been then.
Speak for yourself.
I think his biggest hit in the U.S. was in 1995.
>>Goody two shoes... <<
Did he ever do anything else...?
And if some body's troubles in this life wake him up to eternal truths, it is a good trade. I think that the increasing troubles of aging is God's final gift. As the scriptures say, the goodness of God leads men to repentance. Sometimes trials and pain are a gift of good.
Adam Ant is a “ legend “ only in his own mind , which aapparently isn’t working too well these days . Out of curiosity I bought an Adam & The Ants 45 back around 1980 , and it sucked .
