Not only are babies a blessing....
They are a GIFT...

I have two of them to treasure, one 38 and one 35 and they just keep on blessing our lives.

may this child be a treasured GIFT to the Travolta family.

Lmao! Big doesn't matter. Not with the plan you have! It is strange...Joe doesn't seem to care anymore about hanging with his bro's or riding any of his Harleys. He says the horses give him a sense of peace he never had before. Thank the Lord for that! He has calmed down quite a bit since Sassy was born.

I can't imagine a toddler in the house during one's 60s.

I've got some friends who had children late in life. They're positively miserable. Their golden years are going to be raising teenagers. The lady is always exhausted from housework, her job, cooking, etc. She's currently on an antidepressant. The husband is always exhausted from his job, chores, etc.

I stand corrected. That’s still pretty old to be contending with children. I raised three. I’d hate to have to do it again. I love kids and all, but these days I love other people’s kids.

When she died her last words were of that baby she lost.

Probably he came down to escort his Mommy to heaven.

G-d bless the Travoltas. Every baby is precious, and will bring joy.

Supposedly they were trying for 1 1/2 years, so even before the loss of their son Jett. These days a woman's eggs are pretty shot by 45, but own egg or donor egg, babies are blessings. And babies later in life are SPECIAL blessings. I hope this one brings joy to a family that has experienced the worst that life has on this planet (the loss of a young child).

My oldest is 31 yrs old & my youngest 10 yrs old. The in between sons are now adults. Maybe because Sassy is around adults she isn't a pain. I also have learned tough love from the older ones. I find so much joy in being an older mother. I don't care if the house is spotless & I am way more relaxed. When I was a young mother I was always trying so hard to make everything perfect. Now I enjoy my youngest & thank the Lord for her. I don't think she will be a problem in her teenage years because she knows our rules. Plus her siblings won't allow it IF I ever get that old & feeble that I will allow a child to make my life miserable.

I also find that many parents, young & old don't spend enough time with their children. They let them get away with everything & in return the children are brats. If you give your children whatever they demand then of course your life is going to be miserable. Children need chores & rules IMHO. Perhaps your miserable friends need to do some parenting classes. They better do something since they are stuck with their children.

Perhaps your miserable friends need to do some parenting classes.

Actually what they need to do is to place some limitations on what activities the kids are involved in. Dance lessons, sports, swimming, music lessons, etc. The parents have allowed themselves to become so seriously overscheduled that there's no time to relax.

But they're not the type you can tell that to.

"..I also find that many parents, young & old don't spend enough time with their children. They let them get away with everything & in return the children are brats..."

I have to say you hit the nail on the head there!

During the last 18 months my job has slowed down from a 48 hour a week in the office gig to a work at home during the evenings job. Basically I have become a full time stay-at-home Dad.

As a result we make due with a little less money but I have the best behaved, well mannered 4 year old boy in the neighborhood.

Every morning he helps with chores and feeds his 7 month old brother breakfast (his absolute favorite job, for the both of them). Then its outside to play with his friends and whatever.

He knows what is expected of him and what to expect from Mom and Dad and the result has been a very delightful and respectful young man.

Not to say that every day is all peaches and candy but to hear about someone that is miserable with their young children breaks my heart because it is really unnecessary.

I know that kind very well. With the my older children we did everything they wanted to do until they began quitting things & I said no more. Plus it was costing me so much to have them in all those activities. I made some bad mistakes with the oldest one but really learned the hard way. I learned children need rules & giving them everything doesn't work, they expect more & more even as adults. My oldest still drives me crazy demanding things I am not ready to give her....

I think all the activities aren't as much for the kids as for they are for the parents. I know some parents who would rather not be around their children so they enroll they in anything they can. And buy them anything the little darlings demand. IMHO that is just going to make things worse. With Sassy she wanted horses. She has to clean stalls & do her fair share of the work or she gets no riding lessons. When she is a bit tougher & stronger she will muck out stalls for her trainer & pay for her lessons that way. IMHO when you give a child too much they don't learn that life isn't easy. If they have to work for things they learn early life isn't a bowl of cherries. Too many parents seem to think they have to buy their kids everything. IMHO that is just wrong. I listen to what my child has to say & many parents don't do that. They use TV as a babysitter. Some just don't care....I just don't get it.

If you set rules early you will enjoy your children more. I am glad you are able to spend more time with your children. Parks, walks & just sitting blowing bubbles etc can be the best memories. Good luck, you sound like a wonderful parent!

Thank you very much!

More time to raise my boys is the very best thing for our family that could have come out of this poor economy! If someone would have asked me 2 years ago if we could make it without 1/2 of my income I would have laughed in their face.

With what I know now, the only way I would go back to the old way is if my wife could take my place at home every day. We are working on that and I can't wait until she has the opportunity to trade places with me but until then I'm enjoying things.

Enjoy that beautiful daughter you have and thanks again for the kind words and advice.

Thank you. Sassy is one of a kind lol. I would suggest home school if you can do it. I never thought I could but with the help of so many FReepers I took the jump & we love it. We use an online school for some of her work & do the rest together. She gets to have a childhood which so many children don't. They're too busy taking lessons or playing sports. Some hate it but do it because the parents demand it. I've noticed many children are really bad losers too & bullies . She doesn't have to learn that Heather Has Two Mommies & about the gay agenda nor Al Gore's nonsense etc. Plus I save money. No more hearing I have to buy my clothes from the mall where my friends go or have Coach purses. Yes, at 10 yrs old in my area a Coach is a must.(grr) We find pleasure in simple things. She loves to garden & see how food is grown. She helps cook & has even shown me a few tricks with spices. Sometimes the simple things in life are the most enjoyable.

Children grow so fast....Enjoy each moment. What seems like a horrible day you will laugh over years later. Prayers for you & your family, Pandy

Congrats to you and hubby for 24 years of marriage. Sounds like you will go the distance. A rarity these days, it seems.

This is part of the anti-life meme that the left spreads. While the risks rise with parental age, they rise at a very low rate. They want to screen for so called "chromosonal abnormalities" and then recommend abortion when they appear. The sad fact is that these so called "chromosonal abnormalities" exist far more often than actual fetal irregularities occur is never explained, in essence the false positives drive the very profitable abortion and baby parts trade. More, the ADVANTAGES of being an older parent are rarely discussed. See http://www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/ref/ageandpregnancy/ for more information.

Excellent post. Imho, after the death of their son not so long ago, it seems that one can see the Hand of God in this.

“They’re positively miserable”

Very odd. Most of the parents I know in that circumstance find that having children keeps them young. I will pray for your friends.
