IMO, the ONLY actor that could play that part is James Garner. And notice how his ‘Maverick’ character was the same smart-ass that was Jim Rockford.
This guy was key in both productions.

Yep, and just heard that Huggins’ wife, 1940s actress Adele Mara passed away about a week ago.
