Why I hate Mother's Day
Salon ^ | May 8th, 2010 | Ann Lamott

Posted on 05/08/2010 2:27:41 PM PDT by DallasBiff

But Mother's Day celebrates a huge lie about the value of women: that mothers are superior beings, that they have done more with their lives and chosen a more difficult path. Ha! Every woman's path is difficult, and many mothers were as equipped to raise children as wire monkey mothers. I say that without judgment: It is, sadly, true. An unhealthy mother's love is withering.

Great picture of Sarah, like there are any not-great pictures. She’s older than I am, but I have more children.

That was my second favorite of her.

My favorite is this:

Policy Chick

Cheers!

Bad composition - they cut the top of her head off, which also happens when OldTax-lady takes pictures.

Cheers back - Sarah is a thing of beauty and a joy forever, even without her upper occipital.

No wonder liberals are so angry and vindictive. One supposes they don’t have mother’s day in the socialist utopia of North Korea, where everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others.

I see that the comments about this article are just as deranged as the author is. They call it “fabulous” and say they feel the same way she does. Of course they have to take a couple of jabs at Sarah Palin. Liberalism is a mental illness.

Anne Lamott USED TO BE one of my favorite authors. Her book OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS, about the birth of her son and her first year as a mom, is both hysterically funny and deeply touching, despite her fairly rabid liberal views. But in recent years, she got a bad case of Bush Derangement Syndrome and became, for my money, unreadable. That made me sad — I used to really like her work.

Liberal. Unhappy, bitter, depressed, angry, spiteful, and in this case, a pure wench.

Oh, babies are wonderful like that, aren’t they?

Your mother is a FReeper?

Alzheimer’s is a tough one. Prayers for all of you.

No, Mom’s not a FReeper, but my oldest daughter, Seaman Anoreth, has been one for a long time. She’s in Brunei right now.

Noone will ever love you the way your mother does.
A mother’s love is the greatest of loves.
Tell your mother how much you love her
and thank her for all she has done for you
while you still have her.

A lovely tribute to Mother by Il Divo

wonder how many abortions she has had...sounds like she’s trying to justify them to herself by saying she would have been a bad mom.

We get two chances at a parent child relationship, once as a child, once as a parent.
If she wants to enjoy the holiday, be a mother to her children so that she receives that adoration she didn’t receive.
Or adopt a female relative or in-law to fill in that maternal gap.

Wow, am I the only person on here that has heard of Anne Lamott? She’s a famous born-again Christian convert..written a couple of books on faith and her finding Jesus...take a look at her book “Traveling Mercies” ... for Christians, it’s a truly inspiring book...magritte

I do like her take on Christianity, and as I said in my earlier post, she used to be one of my favorite authors. But she became so unrelentingly nasty about Republicans that I finally had to take a hiatus from reading her work. Made me sad.

Bitter is right!!! Bitter, probably a closet lesbian, and disturbed! A person’s decision to have children is usually a very “unselfish” one. Something that Anne Lamont, I honestly do not think would know anything about. She wouldn’t know anything about sacrifice, about putting others first. Her comments are a thinly veiled, “woah, I don’t like this observance because look at MY LIFE and how I’ve wasted it on SELFISH PURSUITS up to this point. Go ahead, Anne, analyze your vain existence, but don’t tread on those of us who know “birth pains” and years of service and sacrifice to “OUR FAMILIES”.
