PITTSBURGH -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes had to be escorted off a plane Thursday night at Pittsburgh International Airport, investigators said.
Channel 11 News reporter Renee Kaminski said the incident happened shortly after 9 p.m. Investigators said Holmes wasn't arrested but was escorted off the plane for what they call being a "disruptive passenger."
The plane was docked at Gate D77 when a "disturbance" involving an iPod and refusal to comply with flight crew demands was reported, investigators said.
Earlier in the night, the following tweet was posted to Homes' Twitter account: "Only guy on the plane headed to Pitt from NJ, wearing my green n white. GO JETS!"
Earlier this month, the New York Jets acquired the talented but troubled wide receiver from the Steelers in return for a fifth-round pick in the NFL draft.

Holmes: "'Eff you bitch, I'm listenin' to mah boy Jay-Zee".
Would that be the general gist of it?
Holmes certainly has every right to be uncooperative if it is. I'd sue the airline < /s>.
Roughly, I’d guess that was it.
And can somebody explain the “no electronic devices” BS?
Frankly, I don’t believe them. Otherwise, I could just put an interference device in my bag, leave it on at full power and crash the plane.
The Steelers are turning into the Raiders.
Oops. Steelers and Ex-Steelers
I have always been skeptical as well, but an episode of Mythbusters DID determine that interference was possible (however the extent of the interference was not determined). I hate flying as is, and when I flew last month and the guy next to me kept texting/emailing up until we accelerated down the runway, I was a little nervous....
If portable consumer electronics interfered with the avionics on the airplane, they wouldn't let you in the cabin with them. Planes would be dropping out of the sky.
there is a SMALL chance your FCC class B device could cause some interference, but ...
The big reason is to get passengers to pay attention to the safety announcement and also to set the tone ttht truly the captain is in charge, and the flight crew members are in his chain of command.
... and the FCC also requires it. (LEAST motivation to do it)
As a 2 million miler, I do what the flight attendants tell me to as a courtesy to them. And to not be a jerk. But that’s just me.
Oh, so do I. And I don’t blame them or even contradict them, they’re doing what they’re told to do.
But when I’m sitting there with my electronic device put away for no good reason, my ire is focused on the regulation.
J-E-T-S Jets! Jets! Jets!
Well now....based on the Roger Goodell’s new and improved “Big Ben” rule, Holmes should be immediately suspended for six games. He has cast a negative light on the NFL.....
Well part of it is a fear of EM signals interfering with the aircraft controls or electronics. Part of it is wanting your head out of your a@@ in case they have an emergency during the takeoff or landing. Is it REALLY that much of an inconvenience to put down Game Boy or the Ipod for 10 minutes?
I think passengers would be less annoyed if they can just go about their business. If you mildly annoy a passenger, you should expect them to be mildly annoyed.
As to emergencies, I feel the same way I do about fire. I had dozens of fire drills as a student at various levels. There was never a fire. In fact, based on my vast experimental experience that buildings cannot catch on fire. The ratio of “safety warnings” to incidents is 1000:0. Same with airplanes. There are no emergencies. Besides, I’m not in charge. I have my seatbelt on and I’m in a seat. If you want me to fly the plane, ask me. If there is an emergency that requires something of me, I think I’ll be able to figure that out what with the bumping around and everything. Then I can take action.
The real problem is being lied to. When you come up with a BS excuse to cover for other reasons, you lose credibility. The constant repetition of the “safety instructions” just leads to people ignoring it. Like safety warnings on ladders, etc.
I’m a former AF flight surgeon. I know lots about aviation and aviation safety. You have about 3 minutes to evacuate an airplane. When I get on board I note the exits, count the seat backs to the nearest exit, and I crank my seatbelt as hard as I can stand it for the takeoff and the landing. I’d like to survive if possible. Maybe we can have an a@@hat section in the back for people like you who can live in their fantasy Game Boy land and not get in the way for the rest of us so we won’t annoy you.
Yeah, well I don’t really fuss about unlikely events over which I have no control. Besides, the kid with the Game Boy can figure out that the plane is shaking as much as you with your hands clutched on the armrests.
He’s no more distracted than the guy reading the book with the earplugs in. But the key is the lie. It’s not what you say it’s for, you approve of the lie about “electronic devices” but it’s about something else.
Yes. It is assumed that if you have electronics on that you can't listen to the Federal Governemnt-required safety instructions.
It was once explained to me that with the plethora of wireless devices on the market, and soon to be on the market, the FCC could not possible certify them all as being ‘airline safe’ to the satisfaction of the flying public. Bottom line: the FCC doesn’t try, they just issue a directive banning their use at take-off & approach.
