As the Topeka Zoo begins interviews to fill its director position, the facility is addressing issues raised by federal inspectors during a visit earlier this week.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture cited the zoo for eight noncompliance issues, such as failing to conduct required daily inspections of the elephants' feet, not maintaining a veterinary care protocol for all animals and denying a hippo access to its pool.

That’s sad. Not every city or state deserves or should have a zoo. Topeka shouldn’t have one.
I travel a lot and see little rat holes somebody is calling a zoo.
There should be a lot fewer zoos and the zoos we have should be 1st class for both the animals and the visitors. The animals should have a lot of room to roam and in environments close to where they’re from.
Egos get in the way and every city/state thinks they need their own zoo. It’s CRUEL to the animals.
Isn’t that the crazy lady who was “looking for love in all the wrong places”?
Is it a violation if they check the feet and find that a democrat has become elephant toe jam?
When I skimmed the article I thought this said something like :
Too much poo poo in the hippo pool.
