An investigation has been launched into the death of a 13-year-old schoolgirl amid claims she hanged herself after being bullied because she was pretty. Poppy Bracey was found in her bedroom last week after returning home from her Manchester school. The teenager was taken to hospital but later died. Council officials said today they are looking into allegations Poppy was being bullied in the run up to the death.
Friends at 1,000-pupil Lowton High School, in Leigh, posted a series of messages on internet sites claiming Poppy was being picked on. One, at the specialist sports college where former pupils include Ting Tings singer Katie White, said: 'This poor girl was apparently being bullied at Lowton High School and has sadly ended her own life by hanging herself.' Another said: 'Why would someone want to bully her?? Apart from jealousy.'

As a former foster parent, I’d say being in foster care had a BIG part of it. The foster part seems to be trivialized in the article. Perhaps this is to make the birthparents ‘feel better’ about themselves.
we have a society where adults say ‘I’ll do what I want!’ and to hell with the consequences. The fact is that most foster kids are born to single parents—and then there is the booze, drugs, the boyfriend of the month, etc.
One last thing—who the HELL names their kid Poppy?
My 12 and 14 year old daughters go through this mess. My 12 year old lived through the rumor all last year (yes, when she was ELEVEN!) that she was pregnant because she still had some tummy on her.
That is such a cruel age.
My group was very lucky. One of my best friends was 6'4”,
275lb and had a very well developed sense of justice. You
got one warning about bullying. I saw him drop a kid that
was teasing a much smaller kid with a speech impediment
with one punch. He's probably be the one punished now.
My granddaughter had been bullied by a few girls for this entire school year. A few weeks ago, one of the girls was alone, and my gd confronted her. The girl got smart, so my granddaughter slapped her. My granddaughter got a week’s suspension; the bullies got a pass. Even so, the bullies aren’t quite so mouthy anymore. These girls are 12 years old.
She was in foster care and looking at her picture, she was extremely thin. Bullying might have been part of it but it seems she had lots of other problems.
Yeah, I agree to a certain extent. However the school systems have crippled the ability to “fight back.” I tell my kids that they will encounter jerks all throughout their lives, but it doesn’t help in an age when social acceptance is so important. The biggest key is making them feel valuable outside of that environment. This poor girl that hung herself was in foster care and probably didn’t feel valued anywhere.

Because 12 year olds need to get in touch with parents. At least that is why mine do.
Go ahead, ask me why they need it and you didn’t when you were a 12 year old. Go ahead. Tell me the one MAJOR difference between the world when we were 12 and now.
A brat kept hitting my kid and the school did nothing. We read the law to the school about self defense. Same law applies to kids as to adults. Told the school son would tell the teacher once and if she didn’t do anything he could defend himself. You can just imagine the blubbering from the principal but we got it stopped.
In middle school there was a group of 5 boys who went around bullying anyone they thought was weak - I had to tolerate them for almost two years. They also picked on a friend of mine who had a physical handicap. If they individually were alone they were not a problem. But, once they grouped together - they were a gang of thugs. Funny, but one of them now works in Law Enforcement in another state.
Oh, and I never never considered killing myself over their bullying.
I need to ask her mom.

I have worked at Middle Schools for most of my 13 years working in public education - you’re exactly right. The biggest problem at that age/grade level is that school staff are not permitted to use any serious discipline measures to address bad behavior. When I was in middle school teachers were still using paddles.
No, I find it funny considering he and the others were dopers on top of being bullies.
I think, that if God wants to go on a rampage against mankind for stuff like this, let him. If that visionary is correct and there is a massive chastisement that is going to begin, we deserve it. If we aren’t going to get each other in line, then let God do it.
Call their parents and explain their little darlings will stop the bullying or you will turn the texts over to the police and proceed with legal action through the county attorney. Then block their numbers.
When I was a kid, kids came home from school with bloody noses and Dad said “Did you hit them back?”. Or they taught their kid how to fight. Mom’s would say “They’re just jealous.” Kids used to be taught how to deal with bullies. Now parents sue.
Yup. The bullies parents would sue.
