LOS ANGELES - A producer of the war story "The Hurt Locker" will not be allowed to attend Sunday's Academy Awards because of e-mails he sent urging academy members to vote for his movie, Oscar overseers said Tuesday.
But Nicolas Chartier will receive an Oscar at a later date if "The Hurt Locker" wins best picture.
The executive committee of the producers branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences imposed the penalty on Chartier, who violated Oscar rules that prohibit mailings promoting a film and disparaging another. ...

Funny part of this is actual EOD soldiers laugh at the inaccuracy displayed in this movie.
Until the Oscar is removed from Al Gore for his fakeumentary, the Academy’s efforts at faux morals remains unimpressive.
That’s what he gets for showing our troops in a bad light.
“Some Iraq, Afghanistan war veterans criticize movie ‘Hurt Locker’ as inaccurate”
“..If this movie was based on a war that never existed, I would have nothing to comment about. This movie is not based on a true story, but on a true war, a war in which I have seen my friends killed, a war in which I witnessed my ranger buddy get both his legs blown off. So for Hollywood to glorify this crap is a huge slap in the face to every soldier who’s been on the front line...”

You beat me by a post!
It’s not a competition, it’s a brotherhood.
Nice profile page, BTW....
I don’t get it...Band of Brothers glorifies WWII soldiers, what is wrong with glorifying our soldiers today? I liked the movie.
I’m lost...
God Bless You and your friends who gave it all for the rest of us.
(blushing lol) Thanks.:)
If it doesn’t pass the Vet smell test, it’s a D or F.
I don’t think it showed our troops in a bad light. I very much enjoyed the movie. It did tell a story that wasn’t completely realistic... the EOD guys going off on their own, without telling anybody else... on some personal mission. No, that’s just not the way it would’ve happened.
But I thought the depiction of the EOD mission, overall... was gripping.
Concur your analysis, Ramius. I thought it was an excellent movie. And, after all, that’s what it was; it didn’t claim to be a documentary about EOD. Those real EOD guys have some giant cojones.
Don’t blush..
Share your talents with others.
That, is what conservatives do.
Roger that. Say what you want, but those EOD guys just aren’t wired like everybody else.
Notice the group most upset about it is that Iraq and Afghan Vets of America, which is left wing IMO. Check out their board members at iava.org and read the bios. During the 2008 campaign IAVA gave Obama and Biden a B when it came to vets issues, but gave McCain a D??? Everytime I see the name Paul Rieckhoff or however you spell it complaining about something, I take it with a grain of salt.
Anyways, yes, there was some hokey stuff in the movie. Even my husband agrees there was some hokey stuff, but it didn’t take away from the overall message, not in his opinion and not in mine. I think the part that showed the message the most is when he went home and all he could talk about was the war and he had to go back. That’s how these guys are...they want to go back, no matter what, even after they’re hurt.
Read more about Paul Rieckhoff and IAVA here:
In 2004, Iraq War veteran Paul Rieckhoff founded Operation Truth. Operation Truth was an almost-anti-war, definitely anti-Bush organization funded by vast amounts of left-wing money ... which is not necessarily bad, but it always helps to know where the money comes from. (The editor at a well-known military web site names George Soros as the source of much of the funding.) The goal was to co-opt veterans’ issues by using the media contacts of the left-wing money ... to make the country think of “veterans” as those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. http://www.vetlawyers.com/ Rieckhoff became a star on such programs as the Rachel Maddow Show on Air American Radio and MSNBC-TV. Realizing that he needed a broader base, Rieckhoff changed the name of the organization to Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA). IAVA became a lobbying powerhouse on Capitol Hill. Even though Iraq and Afghanistan vets make up just 3% of the veteran population, and IAVA membership is just a few thousand of that 3%, IAVA became a loud voice.”
Even if this guy makes good points if he's in business with Soros you can't listen to a word he says.
His opinion aside, the film still portrays the Sgt. as some kind of gansta with a hoodie with the really bad line of, “If I'm going to die, I'm going to be comfortable.” As if our troops go off half cocked risking their own lives along with the lives of their Brothers.
That type of character portrayal belittles the troops and the mission our troops take very seriously. I may be over sensitive, especially after Avatar trashed our Marines with its storyline. I've had enough of Hollyweird’s lying portrayal of our military. Why can't they just make a really great accurate portrayal of our brave warriors without the stereotypical lines and crazy behavior? They could study any of dozens of excellently done WW2 movies for a guideline and apply a similar method to our current war, but I guess that doesn't sell tickets these days.
I agree with you about that scene...there’s no way in hell a soldier would do something like that. I was also bothered by the scene where the 3 of them go chasing people through the streets of Baghdad on their own. Even my husband said the EOD teams have a security element, they’re not on their own like that. Like I said the message we were left with is how these guys want to go back. That’s all. My mom and dad have told me that Brothers at War is really really good. I haven’t seen it yet. I’ll have to check it out at some point.
The media seems to turn to IAVA for comments on vets issues when IAVA is not a true representation of Iraq and Afghan vets IMO.
Expecting accuracy outta Hollyweird is like looking for chastity at an...er, house of ill repute.
FWIW, I wouldn't waste my time :)
