WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama and pop superstar Shakira are talking about U.S. policy toward children at the White House.

Obama and the Colombian entertainer met briefly after she had meetings with staff from the National Security Council and the Domestic Policy Council to talk about early childhood development. A White House official, speaking only on the condition of anonymity because the meeting was not on the president's public schedule, says Shakira stopped by to say hello to Obama when the meetings ended.

Shakira is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and has been an advocate for children in poverty.

We see who comes first with this jerk!

The President is said to have committed US support to the Wings Foundation whom Shakira represents. The organization supports impoverished children in Latin America and the Caribbean

Colombian media also said Shakira met with U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden. It was also reported that Shakira would be back to the White House next week for further discussions with Obama and other officials.

The singer of “Hips Don’t Lie”, also addressed the World Bank at a Washington DC lunch on “The Early Childhood Initiative,” a project to eradicate child poverty in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Shakira, World Bank Launch $300M Initiative.

joint initiative with the World Bank

No word yet if any of these resources will be pumped into Shakira’s own Pies Descalzos Foundation

******

“Shakira met with the President and Vice President today at the White House to discuss their shared interest in early childhood development and education,” said Trevor Neilson of the Global Philanthropy Group, who advises the singer.

The Colombian songbird endorsed Obama during the election and performed at his inauguration. Monday’s visit was one of a number of stops she’s making throughout DC today, touting the need for education efforts in the developing world.

The singer, who recently founded the ALAS Foundation Shakira Mebarak, will meet with World Bank President Robert Zoellick at 1 p.m. to launch the “Early Childhood Initiative: An Investment for Life.”

The initiative will provide $300 million to help create Early Childhood Development (ECD) programs in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Because of the left's constant invocation of the plight of the children, the downtrodden, the poor, etc. I've found it a little too easy to become jaded toward *philanthropists* and *charities* that like to spend other people's money on their personal causes.

While I don't particularly care for her affiliation with the UN, Shakira does have a compelling backstory, is, IMHO pretty talented, and walks the walk when it comes to dedicating her time, money and talent to children's causes.

President Barack Obama and pop superstar Shakira are talking about U.S. policy toward children at the White House.

What exactly is our policy toward children in the White House?

Shakira, the Democrats don’t support Colombia’s war against the FARC terrorists and their desire to be free of communists.
