There is an interesting quote at the end of Joseph Stack's suicide note: The capitalist creed: From each according to his gullibility, to each according to his greed.. This quote is from a book by Henry Fairlie titled Bite the Hand That Feeds You: Essays and Provocations
The Amazon.com description of this book is:
A native British wit expresses an adopted American ebullience in this sparkling collection of political journalism and commentary. Fairlie (19241990) migrated from London to the U.S. in the 1960s, where his writings in the Washington Post, the New Republic and elsewhere both celebrated and pilloried the American scene. The unstuffy Brit applauds America's informality, its gadgetry, its abundance and vastness, and its personification in a cowboy-poet named Hooter he meets in a Mankato, Minn., bar, but he's appalled by its politics. An avowed Tory in Britain, he discovers conservatism's Reaganite version to be narrow-minded and selfish and mean-spirited; he duly eulogizes FDR, attacks George F. Will and denounces government bashing as the sneer of patronizing and vaulting privilege at the needs of ordinary people that can be served only by government. Whether stomping on the dangerous insects in the Washington media corps or defending his beloved Scotch whiskey against the Perrier water fad that prompted the abandonment of... a wholesome and convivial liquor for a suspect Gallic product, Fairlie's elegantly pugilistic prose still feels freshand surprisingly relevant to today's politics.
Other digging into Fairlie shows he started out as a Tory but became an FDR fan leftist with shades of Lyndon Larouche thrown in. Joseph Stack has a unique
Commie bastard...Stack was a low life Commie bastard.
He will not be missed!
but it’s NOT terrorism despite him burning is house down and flyng low...
Good Work! Keep it up. I’ll ask Jim to give you a raise!
The fruits of “keeping” Austin anarcho-leftist weird.
Had to laugh at CNN’s Sanchez. Picking bits of the manifesto to read online, he comments that the man is hardly to be considered a good writer.
What would Sanchez know?
Nada.
This guy’s politics are hard to peg.
Of course the media (even Shep Smith @ FNC) are playing his tea party-spounding rant against taxes and gubmint. Yet keeping quiet on his rail against the healthcare system, GW Bush and religion.
Not necessarily. A Google search of the phrase reveals that it has showed up from time to time on various discussion boards. Who knows where he picked it up from.
Probably not enough pictures for Sanchez.
Anti tax but also anti big business, anti church, but also complained about health care. IE, a liberal who got screwed by the IRS. Probably someone who thinks the government should be all-powerful but thinks the IRS is part of a conspiracy outside the government (my guess).
It is now, but if you remove all of today’s references, it becomes more obscure. Also, his whole train of thought seems to follow Fairlie.
The man irritates me no end.
Of course, I am convinced my husband accesses CNN out of a desire to annoy me.
Well obviously it shows up on the internet after today's event. I was referring to the appearances in discussion boards before today.
What this guy did was wrong...terribly wrong.
Among other things, he’s probably caused the wrath of Big Sis to be brought down on general aviation, and heaven knows GA has more than enough problems now.
About taxes, though, the unhinged killer was right. Even the people charged with enforcing tax laws don’t profess to understand all of them. We desperately need reduction and simplification of our taxes.
Yes, there are all kinds of rational criticisms of our tax system, and they come from all sides. This guy’s mind was in a very dark place.
Right now our lib media is researching Stack from the day of his birth, hoping to connect him with the republican party, some “conservative” group, a “militia” or anything it can label right-wing. This nut will have been made into a long time worshiper of William F. Buckley by tomorrow morning.
Clown to the left of me, jokers to the right...
ping
Leftists have started calling him “Joe the Pilot”.
Sanchez to guest:” “So it sounds like you are saying that it’s the small guy that was being taken advantage of Big Business that was in collusion with Government” (paraphrased)
