For Arrow Trucking drivers like Jenn Cruthis, it was the worst of times.

Truckers are banding together to make sure some of their colleagues get home for the holidays after being dropped in mid-route by Arrow Trucking. Share your stories about helping or being helped home via Twitter. Related Stories

The Tulsa, Okla., company wouldn't pay for simple repairs on her first truck. So Ms. Cruthis used $787 of her own money to get a second truck back to Arrow Trucking headquarters about a week ago. Mechanics sent her home: They wouldn't be fixing her truck until after the New Year for lack of funds, they said. As she was driving home to Georgia, she got a call telling her to come back.

One of the biggest trucking bankruptcies yet, this company had about 1400 trucks and was one of the largest flatbed companies in the country.
Sad to see them go out, they won a top national safety award just a few years ago.

And people wonder why drivers have historically mistrusted anyone in dispatch and/or management.

From a prevoius story, all the drivers were told is that the company was “restructuring.” There’s a world of difference between restructuring and shutting down.

I’ve asked my boss to shoot straight with me; I’ve got a wife, 3 daughters, and a mortgage. If something is going on financially with the company just give me a heads up. I’ll stay as long as I can, but I’m going to get busy looking for other work.

Kuddos to the other trucking companies for getting the hiring word out.

The happiest day in my life was when I lost my commercial drivers license and got away from the trucking industry.Since that day I have enjoyed hollidays at home and getting to know my family.I have driven trucks, repaired them, owned them, managed them, dispatched them and also worked as a broker for freight. I now work 40-60 hours a week making twice what I used to in that industry. Yes, it was fun while it lasted but am glad I was forced out. This is especialy true about the flatbed trucking.

I am going on my first solo big box run to FL from SC. At least it is an automatic. This should be it for me though as my actual tech. job is starting next month.

Glad for you. I tried the dispatcher/safety/maintainance director deal - just about wore me out. I’m geared for driving. Couldn’t take the office politics. Not quite sure what I’d do outside of trucking. Guess I’ll have to figure it out someday. Best to you on your current career.

The largest LTL carrier Yellow Roadway will be gone in the first quarter of 2009. The have been on the brink for years thanks to mis-management and the Teamsters.

Most trucking companies are in Very Bad shape.
