Charlie Weis is out as Notre Dame head football coach, a source close to the program told the Daily News.
AD Jack Swarbrick has decided to make a change after Weis finished the season with a 6-6 record and four straight losses to Navy, Pitt, Connecticut and Stanford.
Weis coached Notre Dame for five years and leaves with a 35-27 record. He has told friends in South Bend he has at least six offers from NFL teams to become their offensive coordinator.

Tony Dungy?
I’m shocked, just shocked!
Meh, he will be in another football head coach job soon enough.
The longest any underachiever has ever lasted as a coach in college cirlces.
I wonder how much a buy out Weis got. Supposedly he was owed, if my memory is right, $18 MM on his contract.
Stoops seems to be always cited as a possible replacement.
Saban?
I never knew this, even though I grew up in the area, that Notre Dame doesn’t belong to a conference. Or is one of the last of such teams. So one of their draws for recruiting players is that Notre Dame is open to play any team, anywhere in the country. Like a pro team.
I just saw the Dungy one yesterday.
Dungy is very interesting news.
Problem for ND is the recruits have no solid memory of the glory years under Lou Holz. To them, ND’s been a lifetime of mediocrity under Bob Davies, Tyron Willingham and Charlie Weiss. Why should the next guy be any different?
Oh, your lips to God's ears. Please, please please let it be Tony Dungy.
Never saw this coming.
The types of player Holz was able to bring in during the first part of his tenure at ND would not even be considered for admission due to the tightened academic requirements. Except for the name and history, which is huge, ND is more analgous with the likes of Stanford or Northwestern than Ohio State, USC or Florida.
Just internet speculation. We’ll see if he makes a statement.
The transition from nfl to college or vice versa is not always made.
Weiss is a good guy and a great OC...he will be an OC starting next year and I think he’ll settle reasonably with ND due to him being a ND alum and feeling bad about what happened.
Attention ...Baltimore Ravens..Cam Cameron sucks, he refuses to run the ball with Ray Rice...note 156 yards rushing by Rice last night while totally killing drives by passing on 1st down consistently...and then running on 2nd and 10...
Ravens are a contender without an Offensive Coordinator.
Weiss is available.
The problem with Notre Dame recruits isn't with the recruits, but the standards that ND holds them to. Unlike Ohio State and USC, and every team in the SEC, Notre Dame won't allow reprobates and illiterates into the school. It makes the recruiting of the nation's best skill players problematic, to say the least.
Kelly from Cincinnati?
Dungy would draw top players the first year. Parents will want what he has to offer for the character of their kids.
