Cool shot! Ah, to be 9 years old again, showing off for the cameras!
I know this boys dad. He is 9 but plays with 12 year olds and still scores over 100 goals a year. This happened on Oct. 4th. Since then they have been on ESPN, CBS Morning and almost every Boston TV station.
His dad played hockey for UMaine and the Swedish National Team. This kid lives and breathes HOCKEY.
This kid does the puck lift better than I’ve seen even Ovechkin do it.
He’ll probably be a Black Bear, but Jerry York and Jack parker will go after him. Depends on whether the Beanpot means anything to him.
Also, how old is this kid? G-d knows the Bears could use some help on offense. :-)
The kid will eclipse Gretsky’s legend and make a fortune if there is still an NHL and an America 8 years from now.
Bumped for home view.
I’ll have to keep an eye out for this kid in the future.
NOT a legal shot: his stick is above his waist when the puck is launched- not legal even in the NHL.
Cool trick shot, nonetheless.
The video has been pulled but as a hockey referee I would be interested in what rule you are referring to?
Touching the puck with a high stick. The rule that prevents baseball type puck-swatting in hockey.
A high stick infraction is touching the puck above the shoulder, a dis-allowed goal would be touching it above the cross bar. There is no above the waist high sticking in hockey except below Pee-Wee level where if a Squirt for instance raised his/her stick above the waist to strike the puck. In other words, like a slap shot. That is called a high stick at that level. So if this video shows a player lifting the puck and or striking the puck above the waist but below the cross bar it is legal.
Thanx for the link. I can’t find it right now but there was a Boston area youth player that made that shot famous around here and obviously this little talent has copied and perfected it. Completely legal
This goal is legal also. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzsOkwHYBno
Gretzky was the first that I’m aware of to make that shot in a game.
Me...
So—why isn’t that shot considered high-sticking?
My mistake..Thx for the info.
Still one kewl shot.
The stick needs to strike the puck above the shoulder height for a high stick infraction. All that does is stop play and cause a face off. In the even that a goal is scored then the puck must be struck at a level that does not exceed the height of the cross bar. In the case of the Michigan player he simply lifted the puck and stuffed it in under the cross bar. Legal. In the case of the kid his shot appears to leave the stick at about his waist level. Again a legal shot.
