The Push back from the Left...another Victim Story
From the Left via the Left

Posted on 09/27/2009 5:53:00 AM PDT by 4Speed

Got this in an E-mail from Illinois, the Alinski tactic in full display. This is an especially good one becasue it crosses multiple state lines in the story. ---------------------------------------------------- Uninsured 22-Year-Old Boehner Constituent Dies From Swine Flu

A 22-year-old woman from Oxford, Ohio, died from swine flu on Wednesday. Kimberly Young graduated from Miami University in December and continued to live in Oxford, Ohio, within Minority Leader John Boehner’s congressional distrct. Reports now indicate that after initially getting sick, Young put off treatment because she was uninsured:

Young became ill about two weeks ago, but didn’t seek care initially because she didn’t have health insurance and was worried about the cost, according to Brent Mowery, her friend and former roommate. […]

On Tuesday, Sept. 22, Young’s condition suddenly worsened and her roommate drove her to McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, where she was flown in critical condition to University Hospital in Cincinnati.

“That’s the most tragic part about it. If she had insurance, she would have gone to the doctor,” Mowery said.

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, 30 percent of 19-24 year olds are uninsured, more than any other group. Despite the conservative argument that young people are voluntarily refusing health coverage in favor of extra spending money, the reality is that high costs on the individual market put coverage out of reach. As Suzy Khimm notes at Campus Progress, young people “are far more likely to be working part-time or lower-paying jobs for employers who don’t offer coverage”:

In its 2008 study, the Commonwealth Fund found that 66 percent of young adults aged 19 to 29 who experienced a time without coverage in the past year said they had gone without it because of the cost. [...]

Young people might have a better chance of accessing comprehensive coverage if there were a public plan, which could lower the cost of insurance, particularly for those without good employer benefits. Young people may also have a better chance at coverage if there were generous subsidies for lower-income individuals, as many take lower-paying jobs when they first enter the workforce.

Even though Boehner represents a large university, he has been an outspoken opponent of a public option that would make insurance cheaper and more accessible to recent graduates like Young. On Meet the Press last week, the Minority Leader continued to stick to the obstructionist Frank Luntz-endorsed talking points, dismissing the public option as “big government” while defending a watered- down plan

So this person was able to get health care. Doesn't this prove that the system works?

This is so senseless.

There is availability of healthcare to all in this country and healthcare is not denied in emergency situations even to those who cannot afford it.

It was the responsibility of this young woman to seek emergency medical care especially when her condition worsened. The fact that she did not is her own fault and no one else should be blamed for that mistake.

I wonder how much that University of Miami degree cost?

“That’s the most tragic part about it. If she had insurance, she would have gone to the doctor,” Mowery said.

And the doctor couldn't have done squat unless he had treated the case AGGRESSIVELY within 24-48 hours of the onset of symptoms.

And even then, it might not have been enough.

There are many cases of people seeming to get better, then relapsing and dying QUICKLY of H1N1.

By definition, this is all Obama's fault -- this was supposed to be the moment when the planet began to heal, don't you remember?

Cheers!

Sadly, there is no guarantee that she would have sought treatment even if she had some form of health insurance. After all, there are usually co-pays and other pesky charges even with insurance programs. Some people gamble more than they can afford to spend...

BTW: I’m 45, recently laid off and my monthly cobra payments are under $150 a month.

This uninsured person was, in fact, flown around the countryside to find a better hospital.

What happened here had nothing to do with insurance ~ rather, it had to do with a swine flu victim playing doctor with herself.

It doesn't work ~ at the same time, having doctors treat you probably doesn't do anything about the flu virus either, but they can deal with secondary bacterial infections and dehydration.

Even your local fire department is prepared to rehydrate you.

So, you don't have insurance, don't believe in vaccines, and you or your kids are laying their dying of the flu, call them if no one else.

Sad for any death but I’m calling BS on this. Up until the time she graduated, her parents should have had her on their insurance. After she graduated with a double degree (art and language - should have gone for a better paying degree but whatever), she could have afforded her own insurance. That aside, she did get a H1N1 flu shot and was treated for pneumonia and was released. Apparently, there were further complications and she returned to the hospital. So, she was able to obtain medical treatment twice.

My son is a college student. I pay for his individual BCBS policy. It’s only $52.00 a month for basic coverage.

Another thing....where were her parents? They wouldn’t provide her with an individual policy or give her $150 for one of those no-appointment-needed urgent care centers when she first became sick?

It sounds more like a sad story of procrastination and bad decisions; something that could have have happened to any of us and not really related to lack of insurance.

Good point that
“On Tuesday, Sept. 22, Young’s condition suddenly worsened and her roommate drove her to McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, where she was flown in critical condition to University Hospital in Cincinnati”

That she was able to get Healthcare and in a hurry....
BUT....
You were supposed to be so overcome with Emotion that you would not think rationally while reading this ..... maybe even feel some “hate” bubbling up for the anti-Govt. care nuts.

But the story has a happy ending... one less 0bama voter in Ohio. ;)

When I read such stories, the first thing I usually think is, why doesn't some rich liberal show us the way and BUY such people health insurance using his or her own money? Why do the liberals have to let such people die for nothing?

thanks for the additional Link.....from whence it started ... so the plot could be added stage left...

I’m still trying to connect what significance “Boehners congressional District” has to this “Recap” from the Left.

Ohhhh, I think I get it......nevermind.

It's a very pointed attack against Boehner, who is standing firm against the communist takeover of health care.

The girl died. She would have died no matter whose health insurance she had. The part they left out was that she had been tested for H1N1 and hospitalized, treated for pneumonia and released and then became violently ill whereupon she was re hospitalized and then flown to another hospital.

As usual, it seems the socialists are once again lying to promote their agenda.

I know I am supposed to “awwww” and feel really bad.

Instead I marvelk at the stupidity of a college grad who can’t take care of herself.

Its not a problem with healthcare...its a people problem. She received treatmnent and would have a couple of weeks ago also.

Sad, but avoidable.

It doesn't cost $1,000 to go see a Doctor. And, where were/are her PARENTS in all this?

The truth of the story is probably that this woman was simply the unlucky one in a large number for whom H1N1 became deadly. H1N1 is still considered a mild flu, milder than most seasonal flus. On some college campuses, significant numbers of students have had, or have H1N1 infections, and often several members of their football squads.

Maybe if we’re lucky the H1N1 virus will hit Berkeley, Yale, Harvard and other well known liberal universities the hardest...(consider this part of Obamacare and a way to rein in healthcare costs by eliminating a portion of the population)
