Allergies are on the rise and there are a number of theories why. Some speculate that it's due to more parents getting kids tested for allergies; allergists will find allergies thta 40 years ago would have been dismissed as inconveniences. Other speculation is that over-hyped concern about sterility regarding babies has weakened their immune system.
A study conducted in 2008 by the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg says diet may be the culprit.
In Västra Götaland County in western Sweden, half of all teenagers are considered affected by asthma, nasal symptoms and eczema, almost 10 percentage points higher than when a similar study was conducted in 2000.
Who is least affected? Those who eat more fish and butter.

Maybe it’s the vegan diets and the teens who are turning food that they go on to lose a few pounds into regular fare. They’re getting just enough, but not enough for the body to set aside to use to fight infections.
Hot buttered sole ping.

Wisconsin kids are safe. Fish Fry dinner EVERY Friday for decades! :)

It’s not just for Christmas
There's the culprit.
Butter is good for you? Holy crap, next thing you know, we’ll find out that sunlight is required to produce, say, vitamin D or something...
Asthma and eczema used to be (may still be) associated with milk allergies.
I know a girl who buys pepperoni pizza at school and takes the pepperonis off because she claims vegetarian. It’s not like she can glue all the little pepperonis and make a new pig at the end of the school year. The pig died to feed her but all she’s doing is throwing it in the garbage. It disgusts me that her holier than thous ideals are so twisted.
Back in the day, we had fish at school every Friday. Now that schools don’t allow Christian beliefs, our children are getting sick. It all connects.
However, when I was a kid, any gathering of children was likely to include a peanut butter sandwich. And no one suffered. No one died. No one even talked about allergies. Then, seemingly out-of-the-blue, nut allergies became a big deal and every classroom in America now contains at least one sufferer.
What's up with that?
ROFLMSS!!!!!!
But, but, but.....for years we've been told asthma was CAUSED by second hand smoke.......... Funny thing is, the only kids I know with asthma are never exposed to SHS. Exzema is something I have had all my life, and just like seasonal alergies, it's a weather/season change related issue.
My son will be one on Sunday. He has been eating salmon for four months now. Loves it! Other parents can’t believe that he eats it. I’m so sick of hearing, “All my son wants to eat is hot dogs and mac and cheese.” I don’t even keep those items in my house.
My in-laws do the spray butter thing and I can’t stand it. I call it chemical spray. That stuff has a list of ingredients that covers the entire back of the package. How can that be better for me than the miniscule amount of butter I eat?
Not only did we go out for a fish fry every Friday, it was always in a smokey BAR!
The horror! The horror!
Funny how she isn’t concerned about the fat rendered off the pepperoni and absorbed into the pizza. I would definitely point that out and then enjoy her reaction.
I don't have asthma, but have had eczema nearly all my life. As a kid the pediatrician claimed it was an allergy to peanuts and chocolate. I spent a very miserable year not eating either, and I still had it. I'm 49 and I still have it. It's basically a seasonal allergy, and is exasperated by stress.
Love your tagline. Even though Rowling is a flaming lib, I equate tea parties to Dumbledor’s Army. Just me thinking out loud.
The stench given off by that fake popcorn butter always makes me gag. Ick.
The bottom line is that he overcame the allergies, which were severe enough in the beginning to hospitalize him for dehydration, without shots or medication, within two years.
And to this day, he loves him some fish!
The air heard has been told but doesn’t seem to grasp the concept. One time she ate pork ‘n beans and went crazy when someone pointed out what those white cubes were. Sadly, she’s vying for Valedictorian which here grants her free college. My wise old soul conservative teen is right below her in rank and I’ll be paying for his tuition.
