Sources: White House Drafting Health Care Bill

WASHINGTON (CNN) — CNN has learned that the White House is quietly working to draft health care legislation after allowing Congress to work on its own for months. Multiple sources close to the process tell CNN that while the plan is uncertain, they are preparing for the possibility they could deliver their own legislation to Capitol Hill sometime after the President Barack Obama's speech to a joint session of Congress Wednesday. As previously reported by CNN senior congressional correspondent Dana Bash and CNN senior White House correspondent Ed Henry, the so-called trigger option remains very much on the table. Under a 'trigger option', a new government-run health care plan would only go into effect if insurance companies fail to meet certain affordability standards with their own plans. Sources say the current thinking among administration officials is that the president will lay out a path to reform in his speech next week that the White House hopes can bridge the various differences in the competing proposals. Sources expect the president to emphasize the message: If Congress passes something now, it will serve as a foundation to pass further reform in the future.

Here it comes. The "trigger" option is the new word, not co-ops, not public option -- TRIGGER.

Tossed together in desparation over a holiday weekend. What could possibly go wrong?

If Congress passes something now, it will serve as a foundation to pass further reform in the future.

If Congress kills it now, it will serve as a foundation for it to stay dead for another decade like Hillarycare.

The RNC needs to run a national ad with the Obama statements that he’s for a single-payer option and be done with this.

He’s stated in on multiple occasions and has said it can be done incrementally. The “trigger” option would be the first increment. I don’t think people are falling for this guy’s BS, but TOTUS may give us the most eloquent words ever heard and the same folks who followed the Pied Piper to the ballot box may look to anoint him yet again.

But I thought guns and anything having to to with guns were evil and bad.

Maybe we should protest louder, until we can get a Trigger Lock on that bill.

If we can kill it this time, it'll be the third rail. If we can kill it this time, I think we can take back this country and kick socialism to the curb. We have to cut its head off this time and drive a stake through its heart.

They call it “trigger” because it is the steaming product of a horse.

If there's going to be a Trigger option, there's going to have to be a Bullet option as well.

If the trigger kicks in then they give you a bullet to end your misery.

Don’t let the government pull the trigger on your Freedom. The signs and Ads write themselves. Do these guys understand politics at all? (YES WE CAN!) (NO YOU G-D- WON’T!)

I wonder how co-president Pelosi feels about this one? I would like to be a fly on the wall when Pelosi reminds Obama how she delivered all those SUPER DELAGATE votes for him.

I imagine some congress-critters will be rather irritated about the executive branch doing their “job”. Make the popcorn.

I'm not so optimistic to believe that killing the health care bill will be the end of it but the sentiment is EXACTLY right. There will always be enemies of Freedom around. There will always be a fight to defend our natural rights and we must stay vigilant because the fight can come from any direction.

It was easy to see the "Enemy of Freedom" in Obama because he's blatant about it but that same enemy reared its head when GWB and McCain decided to reject free market principles in light of economic "difficulties". The "Patriot Act" had aspects that were indicative of Tyrants rearing their head. Even the entitlements we "like", such as Medicare and Social Security, are shadows of the "monster" you describe.

We'd better get used to fighting this beast because this as as close as we've ever allowed it to get to daylight and no matter what happens it'll be back for another round.

The RNC! That would not be fair to their elites to do something of this nature. After all, Sarah disrupted this whole bill with her statement. Can't have that because they (Congress) wants to rule your life for their enhancement.

"My good friends David Axelrod and David Plouffe and Rahm Emmanuel have written this wonderful piece of legislation for the Congress. So don't worry about hearings and don't worry about debate, just pass it now, just pass it now, just pass it now, just pass it now, just pass it now, just pass it now, just pass it now, just pass it now, just pass it now, just pass it now, just pass it now, just pass it now, just pass it now."--

Since when does the president “draft legislation”? I'm under the impression he's not permitted to do that. Some obscure document called the Constitution...

Since when does the Constitution allow for a President to draft legislation?
