They wanted to study it and try to determine why it was such a destructive bug.

It turns out that variant of the flu causes cytokine storms; basically, it causes your immune system to go so wild that the results are often fatal in young and otherwise healthy individuals.

Oh, wait. I'm sorry. This is a flu thread. I was presenting facts instead of hyperbole. Let me try again.

They dug it up so they could make a new flu superbug. They wanted to do this so the pharm companies could sell lots of a vaccine that is designed to kill you dead as a doornail. If your kid gets the vaccine, you should immediately cut off his arm to save him. Those evil pharmaceutical companies. We should burn them all to the ground, paint ourselves in the ashes, and dance around the smoldering remains.

There, now my response will fit better in this flu thread.

You're right. Mad evil scientists are much more common in Hollywood than in real life. The young scientist who dug up the grave to get the virus was trying to head off the next storm - not cause it.

Those evil pharmaceutical companies.

As a person that works at a medical device company that delivers pharmaceuticals, it is difficult to read the wild accusations that permeate these flu threads.

Especially the ones dealing with immunizations. They don't realize that people at these corporations are working to help people, not kill them.
